My sister is in the hospital.... again

Well, on Wednesday morning (6:30) she had a scheduled appointment to have her gallbladder removed. Everything went really well and she was home before 1pm that same day.

Everything goes well on Thursday.... and she was completely fine on Friday when she and mom dropped me off for work at 12. Mom wanted to take Stacey out to the mall and have her walk around a bit. She went in one store, left the mall, and went to Sams Club to get some cupcakes. Well, Stacey decided to stay in the car because mom didn't want her walking around THAT much. Anyway, on the drive home, Stacey says, "Mom, I don't feel right." Mom said she looked over at Stacey and her head was being drawn over to her right shoulder. Stacey commented that her neck muscles didn't feel right. So they got home, sat around for a bit and when her muscles started drawing/contracting more.... Mom called the ambulance.

This is where I started to get ticked off after I got to the hospital and got the whole story.

The guys in the ambulance didn't think that it was a big enough emergency to cut the lights/sirens on so they acted like they were taking a Sunday afternoon drive through town to the hospital. They stuck her hand probably 20 or more times trying to get an IV started... and they didn't stop poking her hand until my Dad came up to the back door of the ambulance and they noticed him looking in. mad.gif

I finally got to the hospital about 15 minutes after the ambulance arrived and happened to find Stacey just inside the emergency room, laying on a bed in the hallway. mad.gif I went over and talked to her for a second and noticed immediately that she wasn't even able to lay her head down on the pillow... that her neck mucles and shoulder muscles were super tense and were pulling her head towards her left shoulder and down to her chest now. After she sat in the hallway for a total of probably 20-25 minutes they finally got her in a room. Another hour passed by before a doctor came in to see her and said that all of this was probably from her being constipated and that she may be having withdrawals from the drugs she was taking that had been given to her to take after her surgery. Everyone was like, there's no way she can be having a withdrawal because she took her medicine this morning.... and takes pain medication every 4 hours.

The guy was a moron.... so that, plus the ambulance ride over really had my blood boiling. So, we sat there another 30 minutes, mind you the whole time, her muscles are drawing/contracting and it's made it's way down her whole body into her legs and feet which were now out completely straight as if she were stretching. She hasn't been given anything for pain, no IV STILL, no NOTHING!

Stacey then asks, "what am I waiting for?" Mom told her that we were waiting on them to come and take her blood... and Stacey starts to cry and asks what was taking them so long. By then I was trembling.. I stood up and said... I'll get them in here... I'll go light a fire under their a**. mad.gif I went out to the desk and started raising holy heck and within less than 5 minutes, my temper tantrum got her blood taken, a muscle relaxer, and a blanket. LOL! I then had to go outside and let off some steam. crazy.gif

A couple hours later, they move her up to the pediatric floor and she has to stay the night. They decided that she had a reaction to the nausea medicine she was taking and that she could come home on Saturday. She made it home by 1:30-2pm yesterday..... and then this morning at 2am Mom had to take her back to the emergency room because she was complaining that her back was hurting really bad. Mom called me at 8 this morning and she's finally in a room on the pediatric floor again. The guess is that a stone from her gallbladder escaped before her surgery and it's stuck in a duct somewhere and that's what is causing her pain. frown.gif Mom said she was going for an ultrasound in a little bit...... so if we find anything out from that, I'll be sure to post.

Please pray/think about her...... she's only 15 and very scared and tired right now. What was supposed to be a simple surgery has turned into a major ordeal. frown.gif

Re: My sister is in the hospital.... again

Boy, I hope she feels better soon. I hate hospitals. Well, the one where I live anyway. No one ever gets in a hurry and no one really seems to genuinely care. That's why we go to the adjoining town's hospital.

Re: My sister is in the hospital.... again

prayers sent, as for the emt's, i am one. i really have a problem with SOME of the paramedic level services out there. it is not easy to start an IV in the back of a moving rig. true, they can push about as much meds as a doc can, in the field. but on short trips to the hospital, they SOMETIMES can be at the hopspital in the amount of time they spent on scene trying to start an IV. sorry ya'll had a bad experience, talk to the hospital admin or EMS supervisor and let them know how bad the service was. that is the only way things will change.

SHAT...
