Well you say combination of rifles, for me it'd be easy. I'd take the .270 bolt, if your going to be hunting in a situation for longer or more open shots it would be perfect. And the .35 Rem lever, for situations when you are brush hunting this is a great rig for that type of hunting. Personally I don't have any experience hunting deer with shotguns, and don't really care for auto loaders for hunting, but thats just me, and also the reason why I wouldn't take them. More importantly you likely have a better idea of what type of shots will present themselves to you during the hunt, so I would say take the firearms that you shoot best that will match the type of shots expected.

What county are you hunting in VA? I hunt alot in Halifax Co. which is a shotgun only county. I guess there are others. That certainly narrows your choices if you can't use a rifle! I will agree, at least around my area, you don't get many long shots. My slug gun (rifled barrel/scoped) is good out to about 150 yards, so it's not much of a compromise and a heckofa chunk of lead to throw at a deer.

I would take the 308 Handi Rifle and a 12 ga. Depending on what counties you are hunting, you may be in a shotgun only area. If you wanted to add some squirrel or waterfowl you would be set.
