Re: moon phases...

I have kept some notes on the last several seasons and have noticed that the moon does coincide with deer patterns. Agreed there are several other factors; i.e. Amount of daylight, temp, rain/snow etc. I am going to PA on the 3rd of Nov. New moon on the 1st so I am excited that at least that part of it seems to lend itself to success.

Re: moon phases...

Last year I started sleeping in on a full moon and hunted from 10-2. I shot two bucks during this time. Actually both were between 10 and 11. I saw more deer during this time to make a believer out of me. I have spent a many of mornings and evenings and not seen one deer. I will be sleeping in a little more with the full moon. grin.gif

Re: moon phases...

Three or four years ago I think it was, one of our guys shot a monster buck on stand. 13 pt., 256 lbs(non-dressed), it had grey hair and it was just starting to go downhill. You could tell because of the ware on his antlers, he also had 2 sticks broken off.

Now, over the years we have shot a couple of these monsters, and I remember THAT one particularly because our guy thought he missed it, we went back with a dog at about 12-12:30AM(sat night cant hunt on sundays) and the beagle found him. While we were dragging the buck out, there was an eclipse. Evereything went pitch black and even with the four of us, it was one of the most eerie times I have felt in the woods.

I wish I would have checked the moon because I think it had something to do with that old experienced buck cruising the trails.
