huntinsonovagun
I think the moon has an effect on deer movement. I hunted until 11am on Saturday and didn't see a THING!! Usually an area that I see deer in. I have heard too many hunters say the same thing about this past weekend. I'm ready for the moon to go away for a little while now..... Master_Chief
Re: moon phases... I have kept some notes on the last several seasons and have noticed that the moon does coincide with deer patterns. Agreed there are several other factors; i.e. Amount of daylight, temp, rain/snow etc. I am going to PA on the 3rd of Nov. New moon on the 1st so I am excited that at least that part of it seems to lend itself to success.
flyrod64
Re: moon phases... I also think the moon has an effect on hunting. I almost always have better luck during the dark phases.
Tominator
Re: moon phases... I agree, moon affects deer movement. I saw a grand total of 8 deer Saturday, and 7 of them were either spooked by me or another hunter. Opening weekend, 1st of Oct., we saw well over 20 deer on Saturday. gitcha_some
Re: moon phases... during the full moon they feed and move mostly at night...so if they do happen to move during the day, its usually around noontime
bigbuckdown70
Re: moon phases... i found that during a full moon i sleep in a little i've seen the most deer activity during the full moon between 11:00 to 2:
huntrman
Re: moon phases... I too am a believer that the moon has an effect on deer movement. I didn't even bother to hunt the mornings this past weekend, but I did see deer in the evenings.
GoodOlMossyHorns
Re: moon phases... I for sure think the moon plays a part. I have much better luck shooting bucks, even seeing buck in the dark phases.
wtnhunt
Re: moon phases... Deer were moving here Saturday morning and Sunday morning, but neither afternoons were any good. Think the moon makes for somewhat poor daylight movement.
bowhtr1
Re: moon phases... Last year I started sleeping in on a full moon and hunted from 10-2. I shot two bucks during this time. Actually both were between 10 and 11. I saw more deer during this time to make a believer out of me. I have spent a many of mornings and evenings and not seen one deer. I will be sleeping in a little more with the full moon.

Hillbilly
Re: moon phases... Went spot lighting on some land we know of and it was on a full moon. Saw a nice tall ten chasing a couple does.
toddyboman
Re: moon phases... seems to have a factor on movement. I have read a couple different books on it, and both of them stated to hunt during the mid-day. Like others have stated 10am to 2pm. Good luck
MossySNPR
Re: moon phases... Three or four years ago I think it was, one of our guys shot a monster buck on stand. 13 pt., 256 lbs(non-dressed), it had grey hair and it was just starting to go downhill. You could tell because of the ware on his antlers, he also had 2 sticks broken off. Now, over the years we have shot a couple of these monsters, and I remember THAT one particularly because our guy thought he missed it, we went back with a dog at about 12-12:30AM(sat night cant hunt on sundays) and the beagle found him. While we were dragging the buck out, there was an eclipse. Evereything went pitch black and even with the four of us, it was one of the most eerie times I have felt in the woods. I wish I would have checked the moon because I think it had something to do with that old experienced buck cruising the trails.
