I'm back

Just spent the last week in southwest Manitoba. And like usuall, the time really flew by. I could have easily stayed for another week.

The hunting was slow, a lot of the Northern birds hadn't moved in to the area yet, and a good number of the ones that were there got pushed out by the storm two weeks ago.

For seven guys we killed six geese, five snows and one Canada. Of those six geese, my brother and I killed five of them.

The duck hunting was real strange. We didn't bag one mallard all week. I never thought I'd say it, but there was too much water, and too much food in the fields. You couldn't pattern birds from one day to the next, they just went wherever they wanted to go.

As a sign of us being there too early, there were more blue wing teal around than we've ever seen.

Despite not getting any mallards, we did bag a good variety of ducks including, pintail, green wing teal, blue wing teal, canvasback, red heads, gadwall, bufflehead and a few spoonies (actualy they were mallards - they were so high when we shot them that their bills flattened out when they hit the ground tongue.gif )

We ended up with about 70 ducks total. I don't recall the exact final tally.

Sorry guys, I don't have any pics to share. One guy did take a few pics, but he hasn't sent them out to us yet. if I get them, I'll put them up.
