tedicast
Re: I had the chance rhubee... how long did you wait to start searching for him? How lond did you look. A gut shot deer is very recoverable if not pushed immediately. There will not be much, if any blood trail, and you will have to grid search. I hope you put the effort into recovering the buck, that it deserved.
brain
Re: I had the chance ive gut shot deer with bow and gun and it took a lot of time but i found em.i hope just because it was a "small 6" you werent short with your search.a small 6 deserves the same effort as a giant 12. Shaun_300
Re: I had the chance Gotta agree with the others here, ya got to give him time and let him lay for a while, then go out and track him down. I made a poor shot with a crossbow onetime a couple years back, it hit the liver and there wasn't much blood at all. I gave him a few hours, went back that afternoon and found him about 300yds from where I shot it.
shockwave
Re: I had the chance "It ended up that i just hit him in the guts" Why would you post this ??? Take your bow and throw it in the garbage ! Not only did you wound a deer which you diddn`t recover, but i think you also, P I S S E D a bunch of people off by bragging about a poor shot !!!!!! Brag about the 6 point you have in your freezer, and his head on the wall, not crap like that........

Hillbilly
Re: I had the chance [ QUOTE ] I did not recover the deer, sorry for not clarifying that, but usually when u arrow a deer in the guts, it is a good chance of not recovering them. pat [/ QUOTE ] For your sake I hope you tried to recover this buck. If you didn't then there will be a lot of angry hunters on this site thatmight think your unethical.
beagleboy
Re: I had the chance I shot a spike in the gut once. I knew I hit him there. I let him rest about 5hrs. Picked up the trail found a huge blooded bed and back out for another 1 and 1/2 hours and recovered him after a tough search. The thing is I never gave up and found my buck. You owe it to the deer to find him. The art of bowhunting starts with plenty of practice, the actual hunt and the recovery of your game. Bow Hunter Derek
Re: I had the chance I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but why is that these types of posts continue? Why post up in a matter of fact way that you gut shot a deer, made a VERY poor shot selection, and did not find it. Gut shots happen. Mistakes happen. Deer get lost. It is a fact of hunting, bow hunting in particular. It stinks when it happens and if you don't feel like total dog (you know what) when it happens then there is something seriously wrong with you. So why go and advertise this stuff out in the open with what appears to be an "oh well" attitude? If you make a bad shot and are looking for help, then by all means seek it here. But don't just come in and talk about a bad shot like it is no big deal. It is not just on this forum, but I see it on others as well. It just torques me off when us as bowhunters are made out to look like we are just flinging arrows at every deer in the woods with no care in the world if it is a good shot or bad shot. I'm off my soap box. Go ahead and flame me, but from what I've seen in other posts, I believe there are plenty here who agree with me on this point. shockwave
Re: I had the chance I agree with you Derek.... And few of you b i t c h e d about my deer pic. lets hear from a few of you guys who thought it was wrong for me to post a picture of a deer that was legaly taken, recovered, and not left for the coyotes, what would you rather see posted here, deer recovered or someone who picked up a bow at a yard sale, never shot it and decided to take a couple of rusted broadheads and try to harvest a deer, only to gut shot one and then post about it ?? I for one want to hear from the guys who put the time in a tree stand, spent time scouting for deer, and ultimately harvesting a deer whether it be a doe or a buck..We as hunters have to police our own and put an end to posts, that end in someone telling the world about " I almost scored, but i shot him in the guts "BFS keep it to yourself it`s obvious he doesn`t have a concience or he wouldn`t have posted !
