dodge4x4
For the last year or so, I have really been trying to decide what kind of career I want after highschool. I have finally narrowed it down to a few things, so that way I will know what classes to take me senior year and in college. However, I have been thinking about taxidermy. Does anyone know what I'd have to do after highschool to become a taxadermists, how well it pays, and how hard it would be to start a taxidermy business? Thanks eveyone, Greg
Smitteken
Re: Taxidermy queation? I have pondered taxidermy as a second income. Around me taxidermists get about 280 - 300 per mount on deer. My taxidermist said it takes him about 8 hours per mount. So thats pretty good jack. Why don't you find a taxidermist in your area and see if he needs a hand this season. Or see if he's willing to teach you the trade.

You have to like what you're doing to be a taxidermist.....not doing it for the money...
snapper
Re: Taxidermy queation? There is a school in Pennsylvaina that teaches taxidermy. Do a search on Pennsylvaina school of taxidermy...this should answer alot of questions.
RTF
Re: Taxidermy queation? It will take 5 years to get established and most do not make it. 1 out of 10 taxidermists today can actually make a comfortable living at it. The rest just get by or loose. A very tough business to get into to. Doing taxidermy is not hard at all, but dealing in the business portion of it can be a nightmare. Here is a link that will give you a ton of taxidermy info http://www.taxidermy.net/forums/
