slugshooter
If you've been following the news then you know that PLO leader Yasser Arafat is in serious condition. It's hard to sift through various reports, some say he is in a coma, some say he is dead, most of the death reports are coming from Israeli media(wishful thinking probably) and I have heard that his condition is not very serious. The last I heard is that a top PLO official called from his bedside to a media outlet that he is in grave condition. If he dies, which apparently it doesn't seem far off, how do you think this will affect the peace process in Israel and what do you think reactions will be. I think that if he dies, Israel will try to capitalize and try to start a full scale war over there and try to remove Palestinians from occupying certain areas, it seems we might be committed to another area if he dies and the peace process gets derailed in Israel. OJR
Re: Yasser Arafat situation. I agree that he has been the biggest obstacle for peace in that area. There might be a power struggle, but I don't think Israel is going to get into it unless it spills over! If the terrorists gain power, than Israel will definately become involved! TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Yasser Arafat situation. Yep, I sure won't be heart broken if he dies. I am sure Bush won't be either. Bye Bye Arafat.
Bruce Schmeck
Re: Yasser Arafat situation. Are you disappointed? I believe he is a major obstacle to achieving peace in that arena. There were reports that he may be brain dead. I thought that happened a long time ago.

[/ QUOTE ] I think it will depend on who takes over his spot as leader and we will have to wait and see. I don't see Israel starting a war as you say. It would be a dumb move on their part.
