Guest psycho
Should rifled slugs be shot through a rifled barrell?
Guest JoeG52
Re: Rifled slugs through rifled barrell You can, but they usually lead the barrel. Sabots are usually best for a rifled barrel.
Guest Xen
Re: Rifled slugs through rifled barrell a couple of days ago, somebody had posted about rifled slugs and barrels, etc. had a lot of good info in it, i think AJ posted it, but i could be wrong. just seems like most of the good info posts are ones he's put up, the guy is like an encyclopedia for hunters. AJ
Re: Rifled slugs through rifled barrell Thanks Xen, its good to know my info is appreciated. There is no need to shoot rifled slugs in a rifled bore. You an if you want, but its not necessary. You will find increased lead fouling. You may have to clean every few shots to maintain accuracy. Rifled slugs do not really spin, the rifling creates voids to allow the lead to mold into as it pases through the tight spots in the barrel like the forcing cone and the choke. It has a weight forwards design to keep it from tumbling. Sabots on the other hand must be shot out of a rifled bore. They have to be spun to be stabilized. beagleboy
Re: Rifled slugs through rifled barrell The rule of thumb is the rifled slugs should be shot in a smooth bore barrel and sabots out of a rifled barrel. I learned the hard way.
