Hillbilly
Finally, I get some time to hunt this weekend. I'm going to my uncle's farm land. Most of the land is agriculture land, but some are strips of long land that is between a river and more farm land. The deer will walk a big dam to go back to the bedding areas. I've hunted this place with numerous encounters but no kills. Was wondering if anyone could help. Like I said the dam or levey is protecting the fields from flooding and behind the levey is a strip of woods where deer travel. It's more than less a giant funnel. There are great big rubs in this place and I'm sure I can drag out a big buck. Sorry so long! CASEY

Master_Chief
Re: Hunting River Bottoms near t dams and leveies. I would get on one end of the funnel and ensure that you can see clean across. Good luck.

The deer usually will just walk up the leveys and will walk down it to the corn fields. Last year I hunted there and they had big deer highways. One going in the river bottoms, then the others going out. Like I said I know there are some big bucks in there, but just wanting to know how to hunt it hard. Smitteken
Re: Hunting River Bottoms near t dams and leveies. If you've got a few days sit back the first day and just watch from a distance with binoculars. See which trails they're usuing the most. Then get within 20 or so yards of where they're entering/leaving the woods and set up a stand there. Watch the wind though.
wtnhunt
Re: Hunting River Bottoms near t dams and leveies. Find the heaviest used trail leading up to the levee. Back off of it a bit, and hunt it.
