TexasDeerHunter
This past weekend I hunted hard for two days and saw very few deer. I don't know what had them hiding out, we usually see alot of deer. Anyway, the second morning of my hunt I was watching two young 4 pointers when out of the corner of my eye a glimpse of something coming through the brush at about 25 yards drew my attention. I saw a large brown animal approaching ( no it was not Bigfoot ) and was amazed by the body size of about 300 lbs. The animal headed away from me and I decided to try a long shot, it was a 45 yd clean miss on what I later learned was an African Waterbuck. I was pretty surprised at seeing such an animal, last year I shot a Blackbuck on the place. Best I can figure is that the animals got loose from a large high fence ranch across the road. They are exotics and are considered to be yours if they are on your property so I definately will continue to try and harvest any I see. Does anyone know how Waterbuck taste's? I know the Blackbuck I took last year was great. Good Luck.
toddyboman
Re: Surprise at my stand so if you shoot the waterbuck do you use your normal whitetail tag even though its not a whitetail??? I know that sounds dumb but I ask because a hunter up here harvested a red stag and tried to check it into check station (that raised an eyebrow or two) anyways the Conservation people gave him his whitetail tag back, so he got a stag and then later a normal whitetail. Just curious.
