MCH
Under certain conditions I would take a shot out to 45 yards. Shooting lanes would have to be very clear, shot would have to be broadside, and if I know the exact distance, I would definitely take the shot. Shooting 3-D, I'm confident on a kill shot past 60, but in an actual hunting situtation I wouldn't venture past the 45 yard mark.
MUDRUNNER
Re: What\'s your bow range? I practice out to 40 yards, but I would not shoot at an animal past 30.That's just what I'm comfortable and most confident with. When you practice farther back it makes the closer shots seem a little easier. Master_Chief
Re: What\'s your bow range? Being I live in suburbia I can't practice out past about 25 yards. One archery range in the area and it is 18 yards. I still would feel comfortable to 30 yrds.
ilhnter
Re: What\'s your bow range? I try to stay within 30-35yds. I have yet to shoot at one that far, but if the opportunity presented itself and i knew the distance i would try it. My longest bow kill would probably be about 15yds. JimT
Re: What\'s your bow range? I am good to go out to 25 yards, pretty good out to 35, and probably average out to 40-45. I try to keep my hunting shots under 25 yards though.
MadHuntinPastor
Re: What\'s your bow range? I have 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 yard pins. I am usually comfy up to 40. However that is when I have been practicing alot. The 40 and 50 yard shots help your concentration during practice sessions and make the 30 and 20 yard shots look like slam dunks. joebobhunter4
Re: What\'s your bow range? depends on what im hunting... if hunting antelope on flat ground not many trees ill take 60 yard shots and maybe even farther... deer id be comfortable up to 40-50 if conditions were right and no tree in the way
VTbowman
Re: What\'s your bow range? Been practicing all spring and summer at 10 and 20 with my long bow, off the shelf and no sights. I am hitting extremely well at 20 so I would venture a 25 yarder if it presented itself. I try to stay around 15 yards mostly. In my compound days my range was 40 but have had 1 at 47 once. (in my front yard-I had to do it)
tedicast
Re: What\'s your bow range? for me personally, the closer , the better. I practice out to 50, but in the woodsthe circumstances would have to be perfect for me to shoot past 30, and even then I'm not sure how mucg past 30 I would shoot
Guest mnarcher
Re: What\'s your bow range? 30 is the max for me but I can only practice out to 25 since my yard isn't big enough.

Guest tyshe17
Re: What\'s your bow range? Im with madhuntingpastor. I have a 50 yd pin, and feel comfortable there but everything would have to be perfect. The first deer I took this year was at 43 yds, but I had her ranged, and have a pin set for 42. In nashville most of my practicing is done between 35 and 50 yds. Here in ATL I can only get 35 so that is what I shoot at. I rarely shoot anything underthat except to check my pins. preacherman
Re: What\'s your bow range? had a 67 yard shot opportunity Tuesday night on the buck of a lifetime and opted not to take it because of the distance. The longest kill shot I have ever taken was about 25 yards. I have often wondered though, if you did take a shot out to like 65-70 yards, if that is possible..........and you did hit the deer in the "kill zone" would it just wound the deer or would it actually be a "kill shot"? Rhino
Re: What\'s your bow range? With a compound I'll practice out to 50 yards but 40 yards is my max in a hunting situation on whitetails. Getting a clear 40 yard shot back in the cover is very rare but in a field or open area it's not a problem. Only thing is with whitetails they are so quick to move after an arrow is fired shots past about 40 yards are usually cutting the air where the deer used to be. About 15 years ago I started practicing out to 80 yards just to make those 40 yard and closer shots seem a lot easier. I haven't done that in 7 or 8 years now. That was about the time I switched back to traditional for a few years. I haven't practiced enough with my recurve to feel good about hunting with it this year but when I did 25 yards was my max range for hunting even though I'd practice shooting out to 40 yards. BTW preacherman I believe it would depend on the bow set up regarding a 60-70 yard hit in the kill zone being a killing shot. I honestly believe any kind of shot that far on a whitetail is too risky since they will almost always quickly duck and run for safety after detecting the slightest strange sound. A mulie would be different since they are far more apt to stand there and stare in the direction of the sound instead of the whitetail's defense maneuver. beagleboy
Re: What\'s your bow range? My effective range is about 30 yds but I practice out to 40 so I can perfect those 30yd shots.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: What\'s your bow range? Lots of factors. This year I'm practicing out to 40 yards, but wouldn't try that shot unless it was a huge monster with no wind. My bow is getting old and isn't shooting like it did last year, so out to 40 yards is unpredictable. I think it is the larger peep sight that I put on it - groups aren't as tight. i'll stick with 30 this year and see how next year goes. shockwave
Re: What\'s your bow range? I practice with longer shots 40 yards plus, it makes the 20 to 30 yard shots seem closer than they really are..
VermontHunter
Re: What\'s your bow range? I am very deadly out to 40-45 yards, on paper.... I have since removed my 40yrd. pin for hunting conditions, because a bad personal experience.... I have found that anything beyond 30 yrds gives way to, too much chance, with my setup.....(ie, deer movement after release, wind conditions and poor penitration ) With that said tho I will continue to practice my 40-45 yrd. shots, but will no longer take anything beyond 30 when hunting.. Guest hoyt_vtec_kid
Re: What\'s your bow range? i usally practice between 25-30 yards but sometimes i shoot at 45 and oce we put a target oer a pond and shot 80 yards, but there was like a 6 x 6 stir fome board behind it... the farthest i would shoot a deer is 30 yargs hog 45 yards
Nick
Re: What\'s your bow range? My longest shot out of my treestand is 45 yards. So thats what I practice at 75% of the time. That is how far I killed my 10 point at this year. I dont know as if I will ever take that shot again due to the time the deer had to react to the shot before the arrow got there eventhough the arrow was right on the money as far as where I aimed.
