Even with a good blood trail you can't be sure that the deer will fall quickly with a questionable hit. Giving it time is the best and hardest thing to do but it is the right thing. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. Even with the best hit you should wait 30-45 minutes. With a questionable hit a whole lot longer if not overnight. Sounds like you need to go back and look in the daylight with the deer bleeding that much. A few years ago a friend of mine was hunting relativly close to my stand when I double lunged a doe during the last few minutes of legal shooting hours. He met me at the base of my tree about 10 minutes later and after I told him the story he took off tracking my deer. I tried to stop him but he's so hard headed he just ignored me. Sure enough he jumped my deer less than 100 yards from my stand and it took off across a wide deep creek. I wanted to whip his butt. Needless to say I gave him a verbal thrashing and left the deer overnight returning the next morning to find it. That doe ran another 250 to 300 yards after she had been jumped and left us with a terrible drag to get her out. And that was with a good hit. Last year I hit a doe in the late season with my bow, I did a TON of searching. Grid-searched a 100 yard radius from the place where the deer was standing, no arrow, no blood, no hair. I followed some deer tracks into the woods that I was sure were from the doe, nothing. Few months later I found the arrow in the middle of a deer trail while shed hunting broken in half. It was 150 yards from where I shot it. I felt horrible for having assumed it what a miss even though I did so much searching. In your case though you know you hit so I'd get back out there. If you push them you will most likely lose the blood trail and have a harder search. 6sixpoint_nobrows Posted October 21, 2005 Report Share Posted October 21, 2005 Re: deer getting away who cares, buck fever got the best of you, happened to me 2 weekend's ago, with a big doe, the shot hit a msall limb and the shot was back, last blood llooked GREAT, then not another spot at all, turns out the next weekend i found her about 800 yards away dead and all chewed up, im pretty disapointed in myself, but theres not alot you can do, look and look and look, and if you cant find her then theres nothing else you can do....good luck this weekend Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Last year I hit a doe at 70 yds with my BP she went down thrashed around for a bit then got up and walked right past my stand. I waited and a 6 pointer came out to where she was. All I heard was running and the 6 pointer trotted back the way he came. After about 45 minutes I looked for her..got 3 friends to help and covered 48 acres of my sisters property...never found her and felt horrible.
