Mirage
Well A week ago I posted about getting permission to hunt a farm that backed to the farm i was hunting. And well didnt go well i called the guy up on the phone because i live in florida and he lives in maryland where i hunt, The land owner owns a couple thousand acres wich he farms for buisness. I called a couple of days ago and he was not there i left a message and he didnt call me back. So i tried again tonight and he told me that his hunting "lease" were all taking, so i asked if any where coming up soon he told me not for at least two years, Funny because i did some research and found in the newspaper last year he was complaining about the deer eating him out of buisness, but it sounds to me it makes him money as well. but anyway i thanked him and said sir ill try back in 2 years thanks for your time. he then replied how did you get my number? I said i found it in the phone book...then a pause he says ok bye. What do you think, I was realy bummed out i have seen the bigest deer i have seen in the woods on his property next to the one i hunt, thats why i was wondering out baiting because its legal in my state but have never done it because i mostly hunt public land and it is not legal on state land. Mirage
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 oh sure he dosnt know me from the next guy i guess thats the real world though. I will keep tring on these farmers maybe someone will give me a break. I have been hunting public land for the last 15 years and am tired of the little racks i would like to see at least a mature deer but not that many to be had on public land i have hunted. I hunt long and hard on stand all day and not see anything for a couple of days i know thats hunting but i need to change up things before i get burned out of hunting
unioncountyslayer
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 As far as trying to bait in that big buck...Good luck. Most mature bucks will not go to a corn pile, lick, etc. Look for a good acorn crop in the woods near the farmers land and set up there. If no acorns, try to find rubs, scrapes, etc. and a worn-out traveling path. Good Luck!
joebobhunter4
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 o well... some farmers are mean... just this mornin me (14) my bro (19) and his friend (19) got yelled at for hunting on unposted land? so we said it isnt posted sir... and he said.. well... well... you cant drive off the roads when hunting! and it clearly states that you CAN drive on feilds to hunt waterfowl and crane which we were hunting ducks... of course we didnt say anything because we just wanted to get out of there... [/ QUOTE ] In Wisconsin you dont have to post your land, not sure what the laws are there, but here you would have probly gotton a trespassing ticket, all 1200 dollars of it I would think. The only reason I bring this up is we had a guy go nuts and kill 6 hunters last year over a trespassing dispute, dont want to see that happen to you guys, it just isnt worth it. [/ QUOTE ] yes i remember that in wisconsin... but north dakota is 1 of the few states where you have to post your land otherwise hunters can hunt it without permission... i like that a lot because if you see a deer in a field thats not posted... whats the odds of you goin to have to ask and come back and hes still there? not very good... we can also bait... north dakota has some of the best laws in the US IMHO
jbeck
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 I feel you should always have to ask to hunt someone's ground. That is just my opinion. I really don't care what the law states. If I wanted to watch a TV show and my wife hogged the remote, I couldn't go watch it at my neighbors house, even if it was unlocked. That would be tresspassing. Like I said, my opinion only
Mirage
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 hey thats a good point, i need to know its ok before i hunt otherwise that would be all i would be thinking about and it would ruin my hunting experience
Guest psycho
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 Trespassing is trespassing whether it is posted or not. Its better to stay away from land you dont have permission to be on or know the owner.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Getting Permission Part 2 If you are in the area, I would visit him anyway. Just to stop by and say hello. Thanks for taking the time to talk if something opens up, give me a call, etc. Can't hurt.
