johnf
In Arkansas it is illigal to run hunting dogs for the purpose of hunting during muzzle loading or archery season. However you can let the dogs out to hone thier tracking skills. If someone elses dogs cause a deer to pass your stand and you shoot the deer, is that poaching? Shaun_300
Re: Is this poaching? Naw, I wouldn't consider that poaching, its not your dog, and you can't control the dog from chasing deer by your stand, I'd consider that a lucky coinsidence.... toddyboman
Re: Is this poaching? Nope. Not your dogs, so you cant control them. Its no different than a coyote or something else running deer by your stand.

Guest DesertTrophyHunts
Re: Is this poaching? If its a friends dogs and you know they will be out "honing" their tracking skills and you set up shop then I would consider it VERY shady. If you had no idea that anybody was going to be in the area and a deer runs by with a couple of dogs on its arse then so be it. My question is why, if its illegal to hunt deer with dogs during a hunting season, would anybody be out just to "hone" their dogs skills at running deer during a deer season? That in and of itself seems REAL shady to me. Help me understand... DTH
wtnhunt
Re: Is this poaching? Nope, wouldnt think so. Wouldnt think strays pushing a deer off to you and you shooting it would be considered to be poaching either. Only way I see it would be poaching would be if you yourself intentionally turned your dogs loose to run deer past yourself.
beagleboy
Re: Is this poaching? No, I don't believe so. It is not your dog and you have no control over it.

Rhino
Re: Is this poaching? Nope. We have too deal with loose dogs (not hunting dogs either) just about anytime of the season.

flyrod64
Re: Is this poaching? I'd have to say no to that. Acyually it shoul be illegal to let the dogs run that week if you cant hunt with em. The state needs to fix that.

However it is illigal to hunt with dogs untill Nov. 12 which is the first day of modern gun season. Dosn't relly make sence to me either, and gripes my butt when I'm bowhunting and here dogs. BTW I think it's legal to squirrel hunt with dogs during that same time. (Oct. 1-Nov. 11)

Dakota
Re: Is this poaching? No, I think you're ok. I agree though that if your friend is out running his dog in the area and you knew it, that would be kinda shady. Otherwise, your ok. Guest TheNumber1Young1
Re: Is this poaching? I wouldnt think so, but this is how some Wardens would see it, IF a poacher puts a lot of corn on your property, and you see it, and you hunt on it(even though its on ur property) your poaching. The same thing with the dog, if you hear the dog, or know about the dog, and it runs a deer out your way, you shoot it, thats poaching.(this would be true if your state does not allow you to feed deer during season)..Just my opinion
popgun
Re: Is this poaching? johnf, you need to log on to arkansashunting.net There is a commissioners page that the members of the AG&FC commissioners and state wildlife biologists answer questions asked directly to them. The Commissioner's page will not show unless you register and log on. Don't get addicted to the arkansashunting.net forums and forget realtree though. They have been very helpful in answering Arkansas Hunter's questions. ....popgun
