Did I make the right choice...

So next weekend, October 29 -30, I was going to help drive for the backpacking class here. They are going on an overnight trip down to PA Well a little before and then after the Adirondack trip have been trying to decide whether I could really go or not. I kind of wanted to go, but my heart just hasn't been in it. Besides being hunting season, I have papers due right after the trip, and with the knee injury from the Adirondacks, and thek nee injury from soccer, I am sore after something like hiking. So I prayed about it and thought I would do it, to help the professor, but I still wasn't convinced. I talked to my mom and she said just email the professor and explain you can't do it. Well I just got over to campus this morning and I park the car and start walking and low and behold i hear my name called and it is the professor of the class! Well I told her I didn't think I could do it because of homework, and she had heard about my knee injury and was really understanding and told me if I decided last minute I could still come, that was fine. One of the guys in the class can drive I guess. Anyway I'm glad it wasn't an inconvenience but there is still the small part in me that says I should go because I don't get many chances to backpack with people from Houghton, but then I've got work, and injuries to heal(not too mention hunting season, lol) What do you all think? Did I make a good decision? confused.gif I just feel bad because the professor is so nice and I usually always stick to my commitments, I hate to break any....

Re: Did I make the right choice...

Definitely understand your dilemma.

I took a backpacking trip a couple summers ago, and my knee had just healed from twisting it a couple months earlier. Well, halfway down the mountain (with about 3 miles to go), I reinjured it. It was extremely uncomfortable. The rest of the hike was downhill, which sounds easy, but for me it was very painful.

Not sure how bad your injury is, or how bad the hiking will be.. but you definitely dont want to get into a bad situation. Also remember your pack adds quite a bit of weight, so just regular walking may be okay, but when you add 30-40 pounds, you add a little more strain to your body, especially the knees.
