Scored last night!

I got home from classes yesterday a little after 4pm. I felt like it was going to be a good night, the breeze was light and blowing the right direction for my stand, and it was cool. I get dressed, grab my stuff and out I got. I probably got to my stand around 4:45pm. I didn't have a watch but probably around 5:30pm, I stood up, pulled my bow back because I was bored, turned to sit back down and I see the neck and head of a deer through the trees just past my 30 yard marker behind me! I'm thinking the deer saw me but it puts its head down and is eating acorns. Well I stand there with my bow for probably 10-15 minutes as this deer slowly moved closer but was behnd some pines, eating acorns(I could hear the acorns crack as it ate them tongue.gif) Finally it starts moving out into an opening, towards a 20 yard marker. I couldn't tell if it was a small doe or button buck, but either way I was taking it because I believe any deer that comes in is a blessing from the Lord. The deer is about 15-20 yards away and stops. I pull my bow back and settle my sight behind the shoulder. I release and see the arrow hit and the deer falls forward then takes off. I realize then the shot was too far forward, I didn't compensate for the deer quartering away from me. I hear the deer stop and can here it breathing hard, which is when I think maybe I hit it in the neck because of it being far forward. I call home on the radio. Wait for probably 15-20 minutes, when I heard a crash, then climb down to go look at my arrow. It has blood up to the vanes and I immediately find blood on the leaves on the ground. I wait about another 10 minutes then start trailing. The blood is bright ready and frothy and was getting really heavy. I find several spots where it stops and there is a ton of blood! I'm praying the entire time also cool.gif Well I follow the trail under some pines then in some thick bruch I see the white belly of a deer, it is down for good! WOOHOO! It's a button buck, and the arrow did hit it in the neck, but it will be a tasty one at that! I call Andy who comes from home to come help me and after we got it home, it took all of about 45 minutes to clean and skin it and hang it in the root cellar. I would say the deer ran maybe about 80-90 yards if that. I've got photos I'll post soon. And I'm glad that I realized that I need to remember to compensate when a deer is quartering away, a good lesson to learn. By the way I started bow hunting 5 years ago this fall and this makes it my 5th bow deer from the same stand! grin.gif
