Re: Do you wear a harness?

Harness is cheaper than going to the doctor. My neighbor fell twice last year. First time he was just sore for a few days. 2nd time fractured vertebrae in his neck and he was less than 10 feet off the ground when he fell. He still does not wear one. Unbelievable that it has happened twice and he still doesn't wear one

Re: Do you wear a harness?

I almost always use one while in my ladder stands. There is one spot where I occasionally set-up, that has limbs all around it, and I'm only 10 ft off the ground, so I don't wear it there. It is about impossible to fall out. I also don't wear one while hunting out a scaffold that we use as a deer blind.

SRA, if you are worried about falling when you're climbing up/down your stand, now theres a product thats like a seatbelt. It automatically retracts when your coming up, when your going down, it lets out some cord, but if you start goin down fast, like falling, then it'll stop letting to cable come out, and hold you up. I saw it on a commercial the other day, don't remember what it's called though.

Re: Do you wear a harness?

I wear a harness everytime up, except this one tree I hunt out of which is in this real brushy area and only allows me to get like 5 feet up. Its just not a good spot to sit on the ground in a blind but no good trees around. I always get a shot at a deer out of this tree early season

Re: Do you wear a harness?

My SOP harness is just like part of my clothing. It goes on when I get out of my truck and get dressed. I never leave the ground without it. Everyone of our hang-on stands has a summit climbing system on it. We are hooked up from the first step we take off of the ground. Harnesses, and climbing systems aren't cheap, but consider the alternative!

Re: Do you wear a harness?

A couple years back I forgot my harness at home, but decided to hunt out of a lock on anyways. The one time I forgot to bring my harness, the stand broke and I went with it. Needless to say after that scare, I NEVER hunt from a treestand without a harness. It only takes one time to ruin the rest of your life, remember that.

Re: Do you wear a harness?

My wife told me if I use a tree stand the only way I get up it is if I use a harness. Well thank god I listen to her because last year during shotgun season I took a nice buck but had to get a bit up on the balls of my feet to get the shot. If it wasnt for my harness I would have been thrown back off the stand. Before making the shot I tightened the strap knowing I wasnt flat footed. I will always wear one!!!
