Guest TheNumber1Young1
Which do you prefer?Calling in your kill?Or going to your nearest check station to check your deer/turkey in? I myself prefer going to the check station, because the people up there know me, only because last year i was the first person to be in their books(the books where they record what size, date, and all that stuff) well i went up there this year, the 1st day of bow season, and the lady,(Jane) said boy i know you aint got another one, and sure enough i did. Also, does everyone meet up at a gas station/check station for lunch or is it just Virginians?
muggs
Re: Your Check Station I always check it in, pretty sure you have to here in Ohio. Not a problem, I have a check station 1/2 mile from my hunting spot.
buckbuster11
Re: Your Check Station No check-in's for deer or turkey here in PA. I wish they would change that though.
Reloader
Re: Your Check Station I prefer the check station. You always get good stories outa the other hunters while you are there. Never gone to one for lunch though...even when I lived in Virginia!
hutchies
Re: Your Check Station Have to check in here. Only thing I hate is that alot of the local places have you fill out the info when they are supposed to do it. Last year a guy checked in a 6 point as a doe. I didn't say anything til he left and then I told the lady what had happened and called the game warden. Don't know whatever came of it. Jeramie
Re: Your Check Station Yep, mandatory in Okie land. Hutchies is right, you sometimes get a goofball behind the pencil too. The guy doing it last year was drunk as a skunk when I went to check in.
lil hunter
Re: Your Check Station The processor we take our deer to is also a check station, so we just get it checked there. Then go back a few weeks later for some good tastin meat!!
beagleboy
Re: Your Check Station Not many check stations in southern NY so I just call in. Just easier and not out of the way.
JimT
Re: Your Check Station We have to have our deer checked here by law. I like brining my deer there. There is always other hunters there and I like to look at the wall to see who got a deer. My town is pretty small so i know most of the guys who hunt.... hutchies
Re: Your Check Station Jeramie, You know that is the same reason we don't have to have safety inspection stickers anymore. Mechanics were just taking $5 slapping a sticker on without their name on it and calling it good. Eventually the state got wind of this and cancelled the program all together but now they can legally inspect your car everytime they pull you over if they want to. Jeramie
Re: Your Check Station Yep, I know one of the guys that use to do that. He would put a sticker on a bicycle. He got caught too. Its all bout that all mighty dollar....

archerjg
Re: Your Check Station This year I will have to call it in. Maryland changed the laws and that is how we have to turn them in this year. Archerjg

whitetailkiller
Re: Your Check Station this year maryland is allowing us to check in over the internet!!!!!!! sounds good to me!!!!!! unless you own land and don't buy a license,,, then you have to call them in!!!! dg
Re: Your Check Station In SC, we don't check them in. I came from the old-school of driving deer to the check-in station. It took me awhile. But when it's late 30 at night and you tracked the deer, it's nice not to have to find an open check-in station. With that said, I prefer a call-in/internet confirmation number. If deer meat is found in a freezer, it should have some kind of tracking number.

ruttinbuc
Re: Your Check Station We have to check them in NJ. Its the only way to get your tags for the next deer. I think every state should keep a tab on their deer herd this way!
HuntingInMaine
Re: Your Check Station Our local tagging station takes pics of everyone and their deer....they put it all on a disk and one of the convience stores has a laptop that runs all the pics on a slide show program. Very cool to see what everyone has gotten! We all meet up for lunch there....I don't believe many of the stories told, but it's a lot of fun anyway...lol
Tominator
Re: Your Check Station Don't have the call in option in Ohio. They still make you check it in. Evening kills on a Saturday can be a pain, because most of the check stations close around 6 or 7, and a lot of them are closed on Sundays. NiteRunner
Re: Your Check Station Check In for Ohio, Never heard of calling it in? Always have fun going to check it in. They even take pictures most of the time. They even put my picture on a flyer they sent out for advertising. One complaint though as Tominator said, They close to early, and you have until 8:00pm.
