robk
Re: Does fighting for bucks????????? you will see does fighting over dominance and not over a buck. there are foes who are the ones who rule the area just like a buck does. they too are very territorial and you will see two mature does go toe to toe or hoof to hoof to gain the upper hand. it is quite common in the animal world rob k

buckee
Re: Does fighting for bucks????????? You may also be mistaking fighting for dominance, for a doe chasing last years fawn away. They do that this time of the year.

If she's the dominant doe, she'll want to get bred first. Younger does usually go into oestrous a bit later than the mature does, that's why there is a secondary rut after the main one. I seriously doubt they were fighting for rights to breed. Most animals do establish a pecking order and sometimes a display of dominance to keep subordinates in check is needed. Tsmola
Re: Does fighting for bucks????????? I see doe fights over food and dominance all the time, I'd never heard of does fighting for bucks before though. In this area I don't think does are too worried about that, we've got a pretty decent buck to doe ratio. I've often seen multiple bucks chasing one doe, so she's got her pick pretty much lol
