EKYhunter
Guys, I've removed the round plug that holds the firing pin from my Encore. My question is how do I get the firing pin and spring out of the plug. I'm removing this as the firing pin doesn't seem to be going back in to the plug which is keeping me from being able to close the breech. Thanks! hangunnr
Re: Encore Firing Pin Question Once you remove the round block that holds the firing pin and spring in it should separate into three parts. If your firing pin is bent or the spring is bound up this could keep everything from coming apart. You may also have some internal corrosion binding the movement of the firing pin. This is what you should see when you remove the firing pin assy. hangunnr
EKYhunter
Re: Encore Firing Pin Question Thanks Hangunnr. My firing pin and spring will not come out of the round block. I don't think the pin is bent however it will not pull out of the round block. I took a very small screwdriver and was able to compress the spring so I don't there's anything wrong with the spring. Should I try to pull the pin and spring out with a pair of pliers or would it be better to soak the entire assembly in some type of solvent? Thanks again for your reply, it's appreciated! hangunnr
Re: Encore Firing Pin Question They should come apart without having to pull them. I would guess the pin is a little bit bent or there is some crud in the firing pin hole causing it to hang up. You can pull gently on the pin with pliers but be sure to remove any burs you may put on the firing pin if the pliers leave a mark. Be careful not to lose the spring as it isn't held in place by anything. hangunnr
Guest toytruck
Re: Encore Firing Pin Question Glad you posted this. Your firing pin/spring should just fall out of the firing pin housing/plug. I noticed on my firing pin last Sunday that the end of the pin was flatened and was punching holes in the 209 primer. I have I guess 5-600 shots through the rifle now and this was the original firing pin. It also stuck and wouldn't let me open the breech, so I just took off the barrel. I had a spare and also called T/C and they sent me a new firing pin and springs and even another firing pin housing/plug. I was hoping to get to the range today, but got rained out. From now on after every extended shooting range session I am going to clean out this area, but good.
