wounded

I shot a deer broadside last night at about 20 yards on the ground. The deer appeared to be hit in the front shoulder with the arrow sticking out of him. My buddy was standing next to me and said he heard it crash. So we took the blood trail and ended up tracking it well over 400 yards. We gave the deer a hour to expire and it appears to me that the buck was bleeding from its nose along with both sides of his body. I say from the nose because theres a bunch of blood about waist high. I found what appears to be lung material. I'ts definetly not hit back. How long can a deer travel and live on a 1 Lung shot? I'm going back after class to resume the search but I'm having doubts. The blood trail goes from easy looking with the flashlight to a lil scarce everytime he decides to travel the creek.

Re: wounded

Hes either a decent 6 or a 8 if he has brow tines. I came to pick my buddy up and look for his buck he shot two hours earlier and I get up to him and he says another buck just came down the power line to them and went around the S corner in the field. So we sneak up and stop dead in my tracks looking thru some tall grass at him. He's walking straight at me and stops at about 10 yards and we have a staring contest. I win and he decided to turn around and take a couple steps away. Wind was blowing straight at him (thank you scent-lock)So I draw back and he turns broadside. I release and the lumenock lights up and SMACK. He runs a couple yards and falls over and gets back up. Me and my buddy are doing high fives thinking hes not far. Go back to get the wheeler and another buddy (45 mins) end up following him till midnight. The blood looked dried so we kept moving figuring we werent kicking him up. I really want to find this buck. Going back out now.

So, now you've wounded 2 deer?? Sounds like you need to practice more. mad.gif I would not post this here...giving PETA ammo. I can understand a bowhunter losing a deer ONCE in a while, but 2 in a row? 2 days in a row? PRACTICE. mad.gif

That would have been good response in a simple PM, not for all the public to see. JMHO.

Hope you find your buck.

Re: wounded

Who said anything about losing 2 deer??? Where did you get that from?? He shot the one deer and we gave it time to expire until a hour before dark. I'm not one to go running down out of my treestand to chase a deer 5 seconds later. You need to read a little slower before opening your mouth and making us look bad. And we shoot in a winter league that got 2nd place last year so I dont want to hear your #### about practice. Besides shooting in the league, I shoot 1 arrow into a target and then try to shoot that nock off and succeed very often.

Re: wounded

Paul, I'm confused about the story here. You have one deer "outstanding" correct?

Is there anything we can do here on the forums to help? It sounds like the deer was traveling along a creek - that's a good indicator. If you stick with it, you should be able to locate the deer, if you haven't already.

Good luck finding your quary, and welcome to the forums.

Re: wounded

i once helped track a deer with my cousin that was one lung shot and we trailed it for 8 hours after the shot was made ...we did finally find her but about 1 mile from where she had been shot... of course he thought it was a double lung and followed quickly after.... and we kept jumping her.... follow the creek and you should find your buck.... and everyone loses a deer .... it happens to the best hunters....if they hunt enough....

Re: wounded

The crotch horn is at the butchers from last night. Just got back with two of my buddies from looking again and can't find any sign of him from the spot we lost him last night. It was pretty easy tracking last night and just stops about 20 yards after crossing a thigh high deep creek. Tried following every runway for 50 yards or so.There was blood every step last night to follow. He carried the arrow for a good 200 yards before dropping it in some brush. We were drenched last night and cold. The neighbor's coming over with his deer tracking dogs to try and help.

Great News! Use those dogs to your advantage.
