Summit stands behind their treestands

Well, last Saturday evening, my Summit Cobra XL seat buckled while I was descending the tree. Not a pleasant experience at all to say the least. There was an elbow on the stand that the paint had chipped off of, evidentally a stress point. The steel finally gave while I was on my way down the tree. My elbows went out and my foot platform caught my fall. I had to detach my seat and throw it to the ground, and bear hug my way down the tree. I emailed Summit the next morning, and got a response from them already. They are replacing the stand free of charge. They want me to return the damaged stand back in the box the new stand is coming in, with pre-paid shipping. A big thank you goes out to Summit for standing behind their product.

I usually just wear a safety belt, but only while hunting, not while going up and down the tree. I am going to be looking into a full body harness to use from now on, and use it for every minute my feet are off of the ground. My experience could have been a whole lot worse. If you own a Summit stand (or any other tree stand for that matter) look for pealing paint. That is a sign of stress on the metal. If it goes too long, the metal will bend and give just like mine did. Look your stands over very carefully, and wear a full body harness at all times. I know I will from now on.

Re: Summit stands behind their treestands

That's good to know. I have a Viper for about 4 years now and LOVE it!!!! It's the first stand I could do an all day RUT HUNT and be able to walk the next day. smirk.gif

Ohiobucks- I thought all summits came with a SOP harness? Mine did. I'm saving it for my son in 4 years. I had already bought the Super deluxe SOP harness prior to getting the Summit.

Re: Summit stands behind their treestands

A buddy of mine has broken one half of his Summit Viper stand every year since he first purchased one 5 or 6 years ago. He calls them up and they have him send in the half that is broken and each time they send him a complete new stand. He now owns 3 complete Summit Vipers out of the deal and has tons of spare seats and parts. I'm not sure how he breaks them, I can't seem to put a dent in my Cobra, but he is hard on them. Now he loans out the extra stands to friends.

Heck of a warantee they have.

Re: Summit stands behind their treestands

Ill bet your new one will not be steel either! All aluminum! Dont think you will have this problem again! Being new to climbing trees and after watching that DVD that came with my stand, you can bet your butt Ill be wearing my harness the moment I leave the ground! I love my Summit, I will be buying another if and when the time comes!

Re: Summit stands behind their treestands

I had a cabelas climber that did the same thing. I called them right away and they refunded my money ASAP, so I bought a summit.

Inspect any climber regularly. Like ohiobucks said, look for peeling paint and also cracked welds. Those things go through a lot of stress in a season.
