Ohiobucks
Well, last Saturday evening, my Summit Cobra XL seat buckled while I was descending the tree. Not a pleasant experience at all to say the least. There was an elbow on the stand that the paint had chipped off of, evidentally a stress point. The steel finally gave while I was on my way down the tree. My elbows went out and my foot platform caught my fall. I had to detach my seat and throw it to the ground, and bear hug my way down the tree. I emailed Summit the next morning, and got a response from them already. They are replacing the stand free of charge. They want me to return the damaged stand back in the box the new stand is coming in, with pre-paid shipping. A big thank you goes out to Summit for standing behind their product. I usually just wear a safety belt, but only while hunting, not while going up and down the tree. I am going to be looking into a full body harness to use from now on, and use it for every minute my feet are off of the ground. My experience could have been a whole lot worse. If you own a Summit stand (or any other tree stand for that matter) look for pealing paint. That is a sign of stress on the metal. If it goes too long, the metal will bend and give just like mine did. Look your stands over very carefully, and wear a full body harness at all times. I know I will from now on. Tominator
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands Wow, too bad Nikon doesn't stand behind their product like that. Seriously, that's great news Tom, happy for you. And, you know what I say about those harnesses, so I'll spare you. And, I have 3 extra harnesses if you want one, or two. HarvDog
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands Outstanding that Summit is standing behind their products and making things right. BTW, this is why I wear a harness while I'm ascending, hunting, and descending. It may take a few minutes longer but I'd rather be a bit safer. Rut-Nut
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands That's good to know. I have a Viper for about 4 years now and LOVE it!!!! It's the first stand I could do an all day RUT HUNT and be able to walk the next day. Ohiobucks- I thought all summits came with a SOP harness? Mine did. I'm saving it for my son in 4 years. I had already bought the Super deluxe SOP harness prior to getting the Summit.
Ohiobucks
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands Yeah, the SOP harness was with it, but I didn't feel "comfortable" in it. Sold it on eBay...... I know, I know.......
dg
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands I'm glad you were able to type this! I wear mine at all times. I think of my family and "what if." Thanks for fortifying that!

Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands A buddy of mine has broken one half of his Summit Viper stand every year since he first purchased one 5 or 6 years ago. He calls them up and they have him send in the half that is broken and each time they send him a complete new stand. He now owns 3 complete Summit Vipers out of the deal and has tons of spare seats and parts. I'm not sure how he breaks them, I can't seem to put a dent in my Cobra, but he is hard on them. Now he loans out the extra stands to friends. Heck of a warantee they have.

Smitteken
Re: Summit stands behind their treestands I had a cabelas climber that did the same thing. I called them right away and they refunded my money ASAP, so I bought a summit. Inspect any climber regularly. Like ohiobucks said, look for peeling paint and also cracked welds. Those things go through a lot of stress in a season.
