New Bow

Re: New Bow

I just bought a new Hoyt Ultra Mag this year and personally I agree with jerdanmagic, shoot the bow before you buy. I wouldn't have bought a Hoyt if I hadn't have shot it for a few minutes. Some personal one on one pro shop help can go a long way. I mean you are going to spend more than $200 on a bow, better make it the right one. Money doesn't grow on trees, at least not here in Kansas.

Re: New Bow

I agree I would definitley go to a local pro shop and shoot a few different bows before you buy one.... Thats what I intend to do when I go get my new one.... I go to a pro shop called Great Bridge Archery in VA and they are a great bunch of folks, when I was first getting into archery they let me shoot the Mathews Switchback just for comparison and I was left speechless, I think my bow will either be a Bowtech or Mathews because I want to buy from them.... Anways go shoot a few and go from there........

what kind of PSE were you going to buy mossyhorns

I have owned 3 PSE bows and have loved all of them. You really need to go to a pro shop and find a few bows in your price range and shoot them. Each bow will fit you differently, or have a different balance in your hand. All of the major brands out there are good as long as you practice, practice and practice some more.

Re: New Bow

I've always been leery of mail ordering a bow, but if you know what you're doing in the set up, go for it. Most times you can get a better price through the catalogs.

Personally, I've always bought a bow from my local dealers. Just feel more comfortable having them set it up, and talking with them down at the range.

Re: New Bow

Here is a great article on the different types of bows non brand specific. They also have another chart that shows the different brands of bows. Some pretty good information here. Bow Selection As for shooting before you buy you don't necessarily need to do that as long as you do your homework first. I have purchased two bows so far and they were both bought online. One was an older Hoyt and my latest is a 2003 carry over Bowtech. I got both of them off of Ebay. If you buy one from Cabela's or Bass Pro you at least will have the ability to return them if you don't like it. Plus they have some pretty nice packages.

Re: New Bow

But it locally, support your local pro shop "if they are worth supporting". Shoot the bow before you buy. If you buy it locally, the proshop will help you if any problems arise.

Buy a Matthews Switchback! It is worth every penny. If your going to buy a new bow, buy the best one you can for the money you have. Why not buy the best.

I would never buy a bow from Cabelas or anywhere which I could not see or shoot it first.
