Turkeygirl
I have a great wind for my one stand, I bet the deer will be moving good, but it is still raining. If I happen to get a shot at a deer, how should I track it? I don't want to jump down quick and start tracking, but I wouldn't want to push the deer, so what do you all suggest in case of a shot? Tomorrow I'll probably go after turkeys, it is so rainy and windy right now here that I think they are in the thick woods somewhere.... buckee
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... Wait for the perfect shot. That way, you don't have to track it.
Turkeygirl
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... I kind of figured that, but I'd probably still have to track a little bit:-)
JoshM
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... Make a good shot...Take your time....If you hit....Let nature take its course and let it die...Then retrieve your trophy!!! If only it was that easy
Swamphunter
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... Maybe a dumb answer as most people do this, but after the shot, make sure you spot the furthest and last place that you viewed the animal before he got out of your sight. If the blood trail is lost, you can always go to that exact spot and start there. It will put you much closer to his vicinity.
wtnhunt
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... I always determine the amount of time based on the shot, the reaction, and whether or not I see or hear the deer go down.
NY_Bowhunter14
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... basically if ya make a good shot wait 20 minutes to half an hour then go look for it... if its a bad shot depending on the time of day wait over night, If i made a bad shot i would wait at least 6 hours maybe even 7 or
AJ
Re: Ok, so I\'m gonna deer hunt but.... If I am gun hunting (rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, handgun) I don't wait after the shot. I only wait when using archery gear. The only time I wait is the time it takes me to climb out of the treestand. Shoot and go get it.
