Scores!...just not on what i thought

Well here is my first deer of 2005, my first muzzle loader deer, the first one i have shot in over 4 years(college killed my hunting), and the first antlerless deer i have ever shot. After frustrating bow hunting(only had small bucks in range, no big bucks or does) i decided to try out my dad's old muzzleloader before rifle season opens. Long story made short i stalked a group of does and fawns to about 65 yards with the intention of shooting a young doe that would be closest to me when I crested the hill. In the time I was sneaking in apparently they moved closer and when I peeked over the hill I needed to make a quick shot before I got busted. In my haste I mistook a fawn for the doe that had been closest, but a deer is a deer. A big lead slug from a .54 cal. muzzle loader, pushed by 110 grains of black powder apparently makes short work of a fawn. It ran maybe 20 yards and plied up. The exit wound looks about teh size of my fist, but luckily is in the ribs and wasted no meat. This was definately fun, and I think I may have to spend some more time hunting with a muzzle loader. One thing I should change perhaps is a bit less powder for deer(turns out the gun has killed a few moose over the years with the same load lol. It is not big, but it is a good warmup for me after my time off, and will definately eat well! I guess I just have to make sure my other doe and buck tag get attached to big deer. grin.gif Here is a pic of what may well be the smallest deer taken in Ontario this year lol.2005_1024Image0050.JPG
