starting from scratch

A good rifle would be a Remington 700 in 243 or 22-250. THese rifles will reach out and touch 'em. Put a bipod and a good scope on top and that's about perfect in my opinion. For the calls, yeah a Foxpro would work great if they are legal in your state and you might want to check out a decoy too. Good luck to you. grin.gifsmile.gif

Re: starting from scratch

Hand calls are effective, but like you said, sometimes the ole bod just can't handle it! The e-caller is the route to go, and you might wanna check out my response in this thread to MICK.....

I fixed up a home made ecaller and saved about $200 bucks by going that route!

To reach out there like your talking, I've used a .270 with 100 gr. bullet of some sort, like Remington. But my rifle of choice is for closer in range, under 200 yards. If you are calling effectively, you should not have to take shots beyond 200 yards. More often than not, be patient, and you'll have most of your shots within 100 yards!

Once you spot a yote, just remain still, and let your calls do the work. I got three yotes in 30 minutes last fall from 15 yards to 25 yards.... wearing no camo, in the afternoon, and just sitting in the shade of a big oak!

My routine is to start off with a puppy distress call, if yotes are close, they'll be there in just minutes. If nothing perks, then switch to rabbits or some other small animal.

Patience is the key... and let your calls work for you!
