waterfowler_gal
Re: South Dakota I hunted between Brookings and Howard. I will be back to use the rest of my lic. up later when the crops are out and the fair weather hunters are out of there Here is just a taste of some roosters we dealt with this past week... Long tail feather's that's what I am talking about! [image][/image]
WaCoyote
Re: South Dakota Those are awesome tailfeathers. How long were the spurs. I'm assuming the one on the left is a 2nd year bird. Very Nice!!
waterfowler_gal
Re: South Dakota I didn't measure the spurs on the longer one in the pic but I believe 2nd year or possible even 3rd year old... Black sharp shiny spurs... It got up right under my feet almost so I layed the smackdown on the bird at like 20 yards... the body took a little beating... I am trying to get a nice one to mount... I want to get one of those coffee tables with the inside mount with a little habitat
Guest cowpoke
Re: South Dakota One of my buddies is out in eastern SD around Brookings I think this week. He went to grad school there and has a few contacts for hunting land. I have not heard how he did yet. The pheasants out by my place just disappeared in the last day or two. I suspect a couple of ditch tigers or the coyotes got them. the ditch tigers better keep a low profile and the yotes are safe until after gun deer season here. WaCoyote
Re: South Dakota [ QUOTE ] I am trying to get a nice one to mount... [/ QUOTE ] Me too. Once a year or so you'll get that really pretty one with long spurs and feathers that you don't hit real hard. They don't come around often, although all of them are pretty in there own right. Actually I don't hit any of them hard. I usually try to hit them with one pellet just at the base of the skull. Have fun this year I'll be chasin tomorrow. Dakota
Re: South Dakota Wow! That is one longtailed bird! I shot one with feathers a bit longer than the one on the right on opening day. You just can't beat the colors of those wily ringnecks. Man...uh, I mean girl...those are some awesome SD roosters! Congrats!
