Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

I shoot the 300 Gr with 150 Gr Pyrodex Pellets. I only have range time with them, but they are my favorite as far as the ballistics are concerned.

I freakin hear THAT! Man I thought I was gonna bend my rod in 2 pushing those bad boys down. But they shot better then anything else...

Thanks.

Have you tried any of Precisions bullets? I wanted to try the Shockwave/SST because they are a bit cheaper and you can get them just about anywhere.

After a day at the range Wednesday. Watching my brother bend his ramrod, and me putting all my weight on a short starter trying to get them to start in the muzzle. I said screw this. Back to the Precision QT40 235gr.They shoot as good if not better that the Shockwave on paper, and did a number on the buck I took last year, and they load a whole lot easier too.

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

I am gonna try them next summer. I did not know about them until just last week. I had already bought up a few different loads and ran outa money.

I am happy with the end results and will use these this year. I just hope I do not need a quick 2nd shot... LOL

It seems that its just starting them thats the big yank, once started they go down firm but managable. Unless you do not swab the bore 1st, then they really suck... LOL

I wish I knew some of the folks who had some of the PR QT40's close by so I could try a few before buying 48 of them....

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

Have used PR bullets for a few years, but needed a bullet

which was capable of more speed this year, as my new

Savage pushes them out a lot faster. I heard and read

several stories of disappointing results of the 2003

seasons regarding both the 250SST and 250SW (not so,

this year -- seems like anyone using them in combination

with good shot placement is having GREAT luck).

Anyway, the 200gr Shockwave was a nightmare to find

an accurate load in the Savage. Having gotten that

accomplished (just a week prior to IA Early ML season),

I found the 200 to be awesome in performance.

Because of brush, the only shot afforded (90yds) was

a small area on the shoulder -- bullet struck its mark

and the 8-pointer dropped like he had been hit in the

head. The bullet had fractured entrance shoulder,

ticked entrance rib, broke exit rib, crushed exit

shoulder, and lodged just under the skin on the exit

side (a piece of lead had exited). The whole pealed

jacket was there, while all the lead had been exhausted

from it, mainly in the exit shoulder area. I was

impressed! grin.gif

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

i tried the shockwaves and although they shot okay i was not happy with how they loaded for a 2nd round in the field. because they got so much plastic int he barrel with one shot i decided to go another direction. i went a shot the powerbelts and they loaded so easy i could shoot two shots and both hit the same spot at a 100 yards os i went with the instead of the shockwaves. if they had another way or using them i would i like the bullet tiself but with the powerbelt system and the 777 i had no problems what so ever when it came to shooting and loading my encore

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

Shockwaves! I've developed a love/hate relationship with these bullets! They are no doubt the most accurate bullet I've shot from my .50 cal. Omega (and I've tried them all)! All the horror stories about loading them are very true. But, what's a person to do? Give up accuracy for loading convenience???? Till somebody comes out with something better, I'm sticking with my Shockwaves!

i'll ditto all of this, loading these sabots are a PAIN in the butt, but im also shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards, shot a doe yesterday morning from 125 yards bullet rolled her on impact. Went in took out one shoulder, both lungs, top of the heart and a rib before lodging up against the pelt on the far side, I retrieved the bullet and will post some pics of it later tonight.

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

I have shot two deer this year with the Shockwave. I replaced the sabot with the latest version from MMP and pushed them with 44 gr of smokeless powder with a velocity of 2400 fps. They are hard to push down the bore, but they shoot fantastic. Distance to deer number one was about 40 yards. Shot took out both front shoulders and exited. Distance to deer number two was about 60 yards and destroyed the spine. The bullet was completely mushroomed and laying just under the hide on the opposite side. The bullet did shed its jacket. For deer sized game, it works superb at the high speeds. If I was to use this gun/load combo for bigger game like elk or moose, I would probably use a tougher bullet designed for deeper penetration.

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

Well its my opinion I would rather have a hard pushing bullet that gets great groups then an easy pushing bullet that gets ok groups.

Thats basically what I found when trying, for many years, to find the right "load".

The Shock Waves were awesome as far as accuracy and I am happy with them.

it concerns me that they are changing the sabot or whatever was reported so I may be in the same boat next year as I was earlier this year.

That's easy to remedy, just buy a bunch of them this year. You will be set for hunting for a few years. I did find the XTP Mags flew very similar in my gun. I zeroed the gun with XTP ammo as they are a lot cheaper. I fine tuned with my hunting ammo (Shockwave) and it works just fine. I can shoot the XTP at paper and it works just fine.

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

The XTP were what I was using and they did ok at 50 yards but were not acceptable to me at 100 yards.

The shock waves were the only bullet/sabot I have tried out of 6 different brands, that would make me confident.

I had planned to buy buy buy all the shock waves I could find, but as ussual, the money is just not there for that type of purchase this time of year.

Hopefully i can find then after x-mas.... ???

Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!!

I had an expansion failure last year. I shoot 100 loose rs in a Wolverine. Shot a broadside doe at 80/90 yards. Went through both shoulders. The doe jumped up about 10/12 feet,,awesome sight tho. Ran a 100 yards before dropping. There was a small exit hole. No expansion on bone!! Never had any loading problems like above. I gonna try a t/c blk sabot and a gold dot next.
