Safety Harness

Re: Safety Harness

opening weekend I was trying to remove a small limb from a shooting lane--i guess i missed it when I checked the stand a few weeks earlier. I was leaning from the stand and grabbed the limb to pull it back to cut it--while i was pulling it back it broke and the momentum threw me back---I had the tree strap on tight so I was able to keep from falling off the stand--without the harness I would have fallen about 15 feet.

Re: Safety Harness

Well, I've worn harnesses a couple times, and never fallen and had to have them save me. However, I have tested them and found that I can get parallel with the ground and they still hold me.

One time last year though, I had my harness on. I didn't have a rope to haul my gun up though, so I just opened the chamber, left it that way, and left it empty while strapped to my back. I was half way up the tree in the climber and I was raising the bottom part when all of a sudden the top part broke off bark and it fell down and hit the bottom part. I hadn't had time to hook my harness yet because I wasn't up all the way, so it's just me, wrapped around a tree, an unloaded gun on my back, 10 foot in the air. Man, when that stand hit the barb wire fence at the bottom of the tree, it sounded like WWII. I mean, there prolly wasn't a deer for 2 miles after that.
