More Wild Turkey Licenses For Utah Hunters

SALT LAKE CITY, UT

More wild turkey hunting licenses will be available to Utah hunters this spring after the Utah Wildlife Board approved a 19 percent increase in the number of available permits for 2006.

A total of 2,034 Rio Grande turkey permits will be available for the state's 2006 spring hunting season compared to the 1,612 licenses that were available this past spring. The number of Merriam's permits will also increase this spring, from 624 to 638. The 2,672 total wild turkey permits include limited-entry permits as well as landowner, conservation and Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit permits.

In addition to more permits, hunters will also have additional areas to hunt this spring after the Utah Wildlife Board approved a new Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit program for wild turkeys. A new Walk-In Access program will also be available to hunters in northern Utah.

Applications for Utah's 2006 spring wild turkey season will be available by November 29. Applications must be received no later than Dec. 27, 2005, to be included in the lottery drawing. Draw results will be available by Feb. 1, 2006.
