Ok, i know lots of you guys/gals done this. It was a slow day/night and took a shot at a big fat squirrel.

I've done it! I've scored once. Its like they hear the bow go off and jump just enough, that you Jusstttt missed it.

I haven't done that in many years, only in my younger years.

Yup, as a matter of fact, I just arrowed one about an hour ago. I had'nt seen a deer all morning and was about ready to leave and the stupid rat just came by for a tease so I arrowed him. I alwasy carry a junk arrow for such incidents.

Although squirrels can be a pain in the arse near your stand when the leaves are crunchy, I always figure that a buck can show up at any second or be within hearing distance of the shot. So I just end up watching Nature's show while up in my stand!! Sure makes the time go by quicker!!

I don't shoot at them. This may sound stupid, but I like to draw back and aim at them as IF I was going to shoot them.. Reason, it gets me use to aiming at a live animal that can move at anytime like a deer. It makes my mind learn I don't have to just hammer a release, but aim as normal.

Re: Squirrels...How many take shots

I always say I am gonna but the cost of my broadheads keep me from doing it.

I even bring out judos but it would be my luck I am screwing around with swapping out arrows and shooting when that 1 deer would walk threw.

I just watch them and EVERYTHING else while I am at it.

I actually hunt rabbits and squirrels with flu flu arrows. It is a blast and i don't care what anyone says rabbits and squirrels do taste good. You just have to know how to cook them. I have a total of 54 squirrels under my belt 22 which have been out of a tree and don't know how many rabbits. They are easier than squirrels.

Yep I keep 3 arrows with broadheads and 3 with field tips. I shot at a rabbit last weekend hit it knocked it over and then it jumped out of the arrow and ran when I checked the arrow no blood on it and no blood in the direction the rabbit ran so I guess not a good enough shot.

Re: Squirrels...How many take shots

I've done it in the past if one's close enough when I'm getting down after a morning hunt. Never have connected though.

I shot a fox once as I was about to get down.

Funniest one was my buddy sticking one to a tree about 20ft up. confused.gif

Still don't know why he did that. That was an expensive squirrel. grin.gif

Warning sign for other tree rats. LOL

And yep I do shoot at them, armadillos, possums. They only get shot at if they are being a pain in the rear. If they are just running around and get out of the area no big deal. I had a squirrel sit on an old stand about 20 yards from me for hours a few weeks back and just bark at me and then run up and down th tree. Finally he came close to the bottom and I took a shot thru 2 foot tall cedar and missed. What I thought was his body was actually his tail. My last arrow in my quiver is known as the Armadilla Killa.
