slugshooter
NASCAR.com is reporting that Scott Wimmer has been released from Bill Davis Racing. I believe he is finishing out the season and looking for a ride for next year. Apparently, according to him, it came as a surprise because he was told a couple weeks ago he was still in the car. Since Waltrip is going to BDR next season, it sounds to me like Bill Davis doesn't want to field a second car and instead put Mikey in the #22. I wish one of these owners would wake up and put Ward back in a ride, but, by all accounts, last I read, he was content to work on his land and run the Ward Burton Wildlife Fund. tedicast
Re: Wimmer released from #22 [ QUOTE ] What ever happened to Ward Burton, I haven't even heard his named mentioned all season. [/ QUOTE ] There was an interview with him earlier in the year. He said that he had a bunch of Cup, and Busch offers, but none were quality rides. He said he would just as soon do what he is doing now, then be in a non competetive ride. He seems pretty content.

[/ QUOTE ] He won't be in the 22. [/ QUOTE ] Well, he's going to be in some ride, cuz from what the story sounded like, BDR isn't going to field two teams. So, basically he will be in the #22, even if the numbers change, that's what it seems like to me anyways.

There will be two full-time NASCAR Nextel Cup teams housed at BDR’s High Point, N.C. shop next year. Davis announced in September, he had entered into a partnership with Michael Waltrip and NAPA AUTO PARTS to field a second car in 2006. BDR is still working to confirm its final plans for the #22 Caterpillar team’s 2006 season. “We are still working to find a replacement, which has not been designated at this time,” Davis said. “There are some very talented drivers out there right now without full-time rides for next year. Hopefully, we can get someone locked in very soon.”(Bill Davis Racing)(10-26-2005) This also... hearing Michael Waltrip will run the #55 in the NAPA Bill Davis Racing Dodge. DEI chose to keep the #15.(10-28-2005) Jayski.com has MUCH better info than NASCAR.com. I hardly go to NASCAR.com anymore, except for results. Master_Chief
Re: Wimmer released from #22 Good on Ward Burton. I hope he can continue doing what he wants and not put himself in a bad ride.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Wimmer released from #22 I wonder who will want to pick up Wimmer? He's had a tough time in Cup and the guy just had a baby. That is kinda sad, being out of work with a baby at home. Hope all works out for Scott as he seems like a nice kid, he's just in a tough sport that demands results.
Chrud
Re: Wimmer released from #22 His hometown is about 25 miles west of me, Dave Marcis' hometown also. I think I know where he grew up, I drove past a house one Sunday and there was a TON of #22 CAT flags and other items outside. He'd do real well in Busch again. slugshooter
Re: Wimmer released from #22 IMHO, Ward is a much better driver than his brother, the difference is teams. Jeff was with Roush for the beginnings of his career and Ward was with Bill Davis, those are two different animals right there. If Ward is happy doing what he wants with his Wildlife Fund and managing his land, more power to him, he's happy, and he seems to me to be like the kind of guy who wasn't too free spending with his money. He may just have to conserve it a little more, I don't think by any means he's close to the poor house though. As far as getting a new ride, yeah, he wants a contender, why wouldn't he, everyone wants to be in a car that will be up front, unfortunately, those spaces are limited, and when one opens up, it goes to one of these young punks who haven't proven themselves yet. Makes sense doesn't it.
Chrud
Re: Wimmer released from #22 Forget about the Ward Burton rumors....copied from Jayski.com _______________ UPDATE - Skinner to the #22? Forget those Ward Burton returns stories for Bill Davis Racing next season. Mike Skinner will drive the Caterpillar Dodge #22 in 2006, teaming with Michael Waltrip in the NAPA #55.(RacingOne)(11-1-2005)

The man is good for one thing and one thing only, driving trucks, he'll be released after 5 races I bet. Bill Davis has no sense whatsoever, I wouldn't even think Ward would go back to BDR anyway, he's better than that. The only place Skinner can find the finish line is in Japan. Chrud
Re: Wimmer released from #22 I agree that Mike Skinner probably isn't the best choice for the job. He is great for the truck series. That NCTS is a great place for guys like Skinner, Hornaday, etc. If I were Ward, I wouldn't go back to BDR, especially after the way he was released. But, the way I look at it, Ward isn't going to be in the Cup Series anytime soon. He said that is what he wants, a competitive Cup ride. He won't get that. He is a great driver, no doubt about that. But, he has NEVER been promoted to be the driver he is because of BDR. Ward would be better off to take a good truck or Busch ride and show what he can do. I can guarantee you that if Ward were to get into the Chance2 8 car in the NBS, for example, he'd easily be a contender for the title. That would get him noticed again, big time. Look what two years has done for Truex Jr.
