With my hectic schedule between work and school the only time i have to hunt is a few hours some mornins before i go to work.... most of the time i quit with just enough time to get to work.... my question is.. if i do get lucky and arrow a deer with the weather being kinda warm would it be alright if i just skinned and gutted it then packed the cavity full of ice and wrap it up in a blanket or plastic for a few hours untill i get off work to mess with it..... i would like for the meat not to dry out much to.... just curious as to what i should do when time is limited

Re: Meat Question

I have to agree with 5 shot. your deer will most likely be ok packing it with ice, and wrapping it in plastic. If you are gonna do that I would leave the skin on.It will act as insulation to keep the cold in. But... If you plan on gutting and skinning it anyway. In the time it takes you to pack it with ice, and wrap it in plastic, you can pretty much have the deer quartered. I would feel better with the quarters on ice, than hanging in warm weather.

We skin the deer, quarter it, put the loins, and backstraps in a pan, and put everything in an extra refrigerator we have, with all the shelfs removed. We just stand the 4 quarters up in the fridge, then you have a few days to get around to cutting everything up.
