[/ QUOTE ] it has to do with the colder weather. A larger body retains heat better than a smaller one..
VTbowman
Re: saskatchewan deer It has to do with distance from the equator. I have read and seen shows on this a number of times. Obviously this includes what "shockwave" had posted as well. Said distance will equate into lower temps thus needing larger body sizes to maintain heat. You should see the deer in Guam, thats like 8 miles north of the equator..!! LOL Literally waist high but huge racks... 50# Max I swear. LOL At 5'7" and 220# I am not that uncomfortable any more on stand. LOL Now if I could just locate them on level ground I would be ok. Those mountain climbs are killing me... SaskBucks
Re: saskatchewan deer Bergman's Law/Rule, states that animals in cooler climates are expected to have a large body size to reduce heat loss.
puffy
Re: saskatchewan deer Home of the Whoppers! They truly have to be hardy in order to survive the cold here. I followed suit with the deer after moving here from Ontario. I am 5'8" tall and weigh in at 254 lbs., now considered a subspecies of Ontario.LOL
