Strut10
Well.......I took posession of the new ("new used") A-Bolt Stainless Stalker .375 H&H last Thursday night. It's everything the guy described it as being. Very nice shape. My guess is less than 100 rounds fired. I had it for one day. Now the smith has it. Took it and dropped it off Friday after work. When I get it back, it will be a .375 Weatherby, complete with .3700" of "factory Weatherby" freebore. It'll have a complete bedding job, a 2.5 lb. trigger and a Weaver 2x10 scope on Leupold bases with dual-dovetail rings. It will weigh 8.5 or 8.6 lbs. The smith's working away from home all week at his other job and wrenching on guns over the weekend. He sez he can't promise me the gun for this season. I'd sure like to have it for the PA black bear season in a few weeks. Ya'll cross yer fingers for me & my bear gun.
Shaun_300
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) That sounds like a sweet rifle there Strut! I hope you get it back for bear season, that'd be a fun gun to use!
AJ
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) Why did you get the freebore? That's one of the reasons I won't buy a factory Weatherby. I like the cartridges, but I throat them to my ammo. I get higher velocity and better accuracy. Granted a 375 does not need to shoot like a BR gun, but since its a custom chamber, why not? Either way, heres hoping the hunting gods smile upon you and it gets done for this season.
ZooBear
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) .370 is a pretty big jump, almost 3/8s of an inch! I set mine at about .014 with an OAL gauge.
snapper
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) Who do you use for a gunsmith Don? I've been meaning to get ahold of Greslock for some work...just haven't had the time. Hope you get your gun back before bear season...would like to see it! Maybe even see what it will do to a yote! Strut10
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) The reason I opted for the freebore is to keep it a "true Weatherby". Maybe dumb. Maybe not. The freebore should keep chamber pressures in spec while using Weatherby reloading recipes. Most data for Weatherbys is published assuming the factory freebore. Maybe not a valid reaon.........I dunno. Maybe that's why you're getting the velocities you're getting, AJ. Could it be higher-than-usual pressures?? I will talk to my smith and see what his thoughts are to shortening the throat up. Snapper........Gresock is doing this rifle. So if you're in a hurry for getting something done........you may wanna look elsewhere. He's working away thru the week. There's another real good (excellent) smith right in that same area. PM will be sent.
snapper
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) Thanks Don...no big hurry, was going to get a trigger done on that new Winchester .25 super short. I still may look that fellow up and see about a price and time frame.
Strut10
Re: OH MAN!!!!!!! (part 2) Well.........obviously, I didn't get my rifle back for the PA bear season. But I did call my smith last week, and he's getting ready to do my rifle next!! I just got a steal on Gun Broker and picked up an extra clip for it. Also loaded the rounds for the smith's test-fire, yesterday. So, hopefully things are getting rolling, now. At first, this deal wasn't burning a hole in me. But, now, I can't wait to get my paws on this critter!!
