Guest Xen
ok, so the question is this: If you were going to purchase a new handgun, would you also purchase the following items: -extra magazine (if applicable) -range bag -padded pouch -shooting glasses -concealed carry holster -custom grip -training certificate (front sight training course) -self defense ammo some of those items would be nice if it was your first gun, glasses, pouch, range bag - but some would be nice for the gun itself, like the mag, grip or holster. but what are your thoughts more specifically on the training course certificates? I see them sell all the time on ebay for around $125 - would you look for one-stop shopping when purchasing a handgun or would you shop around for the best deal on each item? just looking for some feedback - let me know what you guys think
hangunnr
Re: purchasing a handgun In order... -extra magazine (if applicable).....maybe, if it's a new model to me.. -range bag...............nope, got too many as it is... -padded pouch..nope, same as above... -shooting glasses.....nope, don't need them... -concealed carry holster...maybe if it's a new type of gun for me... -custom grip.......I like custom grips, so yes to this one... -training certificate (front sight training course)....nope, I prefer my own type of training... -self defense ammo....if the gun is gonna be a carry piece and I don't already have this caliber then yes I'll get fresh ammo... I'm kinda on the fence about the training schools out there. I believe there isn't anything better than just getting out there and shooting your gun. hangunnr
Guest ftw46
Re: purchasing a handgun I agree with the above posts. Pick up some cheap, reliable ammo. Any good ear muffs or plugs and standard safety glasses. At least three magazines for an auto keeps you shooting at the range more. Shoot it a bunch. Find out what it and you are capable of and be sure it is reliable. Then buy some good defensive ammo and recheck it for function and reliability. If it is reliable and you are comfortable with it and it is legal to carry, then start looking for the carry holster that will suit you. I started with a canvas bag from the army surplus store for a range bag. After about a year of use, I had a better idea of what I needed and bought a better range bag. I have mixed feelings on training places. Most will help you once you have the basics of safe gun handling and shooting tecniques down pat. Some are "out there" and train you how to use you back up knife after your first two handguns and primary knife is diabled by ninjas... Guest Xen
Re: purchasing a handgun yeah, well, you'll be sorry when ninjas kill your family and you need money for kung-fu lessons the only reason i mentioned front sight specifically, is that they spend almost a full day just teaching gun safety, then 3 days worth of shooting and instructing, from basic shooting to drawing and shooting from concealed, to clearing your home at night. the drawing from concealed and clearing your home at night are 2 things most people would never do, but, it would be nice to know how to do it - kind of like parallel parking
