Guest TheNumber1Young1
Ok, so muzzleloader season starts Saturday, i went and tried to sight it in today, and my 1st shot was low about 5 inches, so i moved it 20 clicks up(1/4in. for each click) Shot again and to the left about half an inch, wait it didnt move up?So next shot i move 10clicks up, and it goes way up, next shot it was back down below. Sorry im kinda mad, but im thinking about taking my scope off,(bc its gotta be the scope, its not me) So is there anything i can do to my scope or what?I think i should take it off an sight in the open sights tomorrow afternoon after school.(oh i shoot 100grains of 777 and a Hornady 300 Grain XTP hollow point)
lil hunter
Re: Need Help QUick How are you so sure it isn't you? You could be flinching, without relizing it causing you to shoot like mentioned. Or maybe, the scope rings aren't tight enough. You should check those before you shoot again. Another possibility is that the load you are shooting just isn't working in your gun. You could try some different bullet/power combos to check that. I would reccomend shooting more than 1 shot, before adjusting your scope. If you have a flier or something, adjusting it could be hurting you even worse. Take a few shots at one target, and see what kind of group you get. If it's good enough to please you, then you can adjust the scope. If it's still not good, you'll need to try a different load and find something that works. Don't be so quick to blaiming the scope for all the problems, when you've only taken a few shots. Guest TheNumber1Young1
Re: Need Help QUick Im 101% sure it aint me.I sighted my friends rifle in the same way by shooting it, adjusting it, shooting it, adjusting it, and its dead on. Its not me im sure of that, i cleaned my gun after each shot, so too much build up cant be the problem. ive tried Powerbelts, T/C, and Hornady, im going broke trying different loads. I got it bore sighted the other day and the guy at the store said oh its dead on, i get out there and it shoots 5in. low, Should i keep my scope on?Or just use open sights? Oh and the first time i shot my muzzleloader about 2 months ago, the screws in the scope/scope mount, backed out so i put finger nail polish on them and screwed them back in really tight so it wont come out no more.So thats not the problem. AJ
Re: Need Help QUick Bore sighting it does not mean it will shoot X rings. It merely gets you on paper to allow you to do the fine tuning. What size groups does your gun shoot? Shoot a group and don't worry about where it shoots. Once you find if it will group, then you can move the adjustments to your desired zero. Trying to get a one shot reading is wasting your time unless you can throw repeatable charges, seat the bullet the same every time, and use repeatable bench technique. Nothing like waiting till the last minute to do stuff 'eh?
Guest BigAl1781
Re: Need Help QUick id recomend using a laser bore sighter,,,i did mine at 25yds and then shot it and hit dead center at 25,50 and 75yds but at 100 im 4 inches low using maximag penatration 320grain bullets and 100 gr of 777...always make sure uyou use locktite on the screws that hold your scope rings on...and they make a glue just for muzzle loader to keep them from loosing...they glued mind at the gunsmiths 2 years ago and its been fine est.
