Swamphunter
I need to get a grunt call and was wondering what everyone recommends. Keep in mind, we don't have many Milk River size bucks here. They are big bodied, but racks are average. What do you guys think??
Sam16
Re: Need grunt call I like the Primos power grunt and bleat. It's the goldish/orange one that has a compass on it and it sounds really good. I dont have that one but my dad does. I use the knight and hale grunt, i forget the name of it but i love that one too. Both seem to work really well on bucks in illinois!
Chrud
Re: Need grunt call In my opinion, the HS True Talker is the best there is. You can have mature bucks, young/immature bucks, does or fawns all in one call. It is a great call. I highly recommend getting the call/video combo. It really explains how, when and why to use each call.
NY911Bowhunter
Re: Need grunt call Swampy - get the HS Tru Talker. It is the Cadillac of grunts. Also the Primos RubberNeck is worth lookin at. I would avoid the hardbody (wow, never thought I would say that!) style.
Sam16
Re: Need grunt call I've had more deer run away from the tru talker than come to it. I think it's too deep and sounds like a huge 14 pointer and anything smaller runs for the hills when they hear it, haha. Thats just my experience though... Knight and Hale EZ grunter is what i use... NY911Bowhunter
Re: Need grunt call Good point Sam - I was thinking the same thing today when I was in the woods. You can tone it down, but definitly sounds like a Monster Buck.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Need grunt call I have an H.S True Talker and love the sounds it can create. Have tried others and this one seems to be the best in my opinion. You can tone it down also. Very versatile call, then again I like most of my H.S. calls!! Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Need grunt call I use the Primos Hardwoods Grunter. I don't see this grunt call in too many stores, so it might be tough to find. I think the hardwood construction gives it a much richer sound than the plastic calls. The sounds can be chaned through an O-ring and the tone is easily changed by adjusting the flexible end.

billygoat
Re: Need grunt call HS true talker is a sure bet, good tone and very versatile... I also came across a new caller called flex tone that I really like. Not as deep as the true talker but very user freindly and versatile (frost proof also). wtnhunt
Re: Need grunt call I have several and the knight and hale ez grunter sounds pretty good. You will have to play around with any call you buy and see what is going to work where you are.
RangerClay
Re: Need grunt call I have guys in camp who have killed bucks with the True Talker so I bought one. I found it to be a pain if you want to sound like something other than a monster buck. I always had to search for the right rubber band to press down on in order to change the tone to a lesser buck. Too much to think about during the moment of truth. I bought a Primos power grunt and bleat like Sam16. I have been very happy with it. I just adjust the tube length to the grunt tone I want and leave it like that. You need two hand for the True Talker. Some advise from a guy just down the road. Swamphunter
Re: Need grunt call I definitely want the grunt to sound like a less dominant buck. Maybe I stick with doe bleats for this year and research it a bit more.
bowhtr1
Re: Need grunt call I think I have all of them. I think I bought the first one ever. I started with a call that sounded like a duck then got a friction call and killed several deer with it. After that Knight and Hail came out with the easy grunter and I killed several with that. (showing my age now) After that everyone at camp got one and the deer stopped coming in to them. I just bought another one today the primos Rubber neck. This one sounds really good. The deer grunts sound different so I think most of the name brand calls will work fine. I like all of mine.
slugshooter
Re: Need grunt call I use a Lohman all in one, Buck, Doe, Fawn, the only thing I worry about is that it is REALLY loud, I mean , louder than any deer ever would be. It doesn't seem to cause a problem. I blew it at a Doe, she didn't run off but she didn't come in either, and there is no telling if the 2 bucks I have seen after blowing it have come because of it or if they were just heading my way anyway, it certainly didn't scare em off. I have 3 other primos grunt calls also but I will be using this one now.
