ladydiehard
I must confess...my anticipation level had dropped a bit after some disappointing misses early in the bow season. I was thrilled that I had deer come in close, my spot selection had been good, and I had had several opportunities. I was thankful that all the misses were clean misses instead of wounding an animal and not recovering it. And there is no doubt my journal reflects some good hunting experiences. I'm human, however, and failing to connect with a deer after many excellent practice sessions and all the preparation I was still plenty ready for the early antlerless gun hunt when it rolled around. I felt better after getting some meat for the freezer. As the early gun season came to a close and I was thinking about going out again with the bow before the main gun season kicks in, I realized my anticipation level had dropped considerably. It wasn't completely gone but it was low. Even as my husband and cousin helped me set up a new spot with alot of promise...I still wasn't as excited as I had been a few weeks ago. Even the neighbors reports of a 12 pointer entering the bedding area (which I now have a new set up near) didn't bring the anticipation level back to its former high. And then I saw it... A tree about 10 inches around, rubbed all to pieces, about 50 yards from my new set up near this bedding area...and a well used runway running past this huge rub and past my new spot. Knowing that such a rub generally isn't made by a small buck and remembering the neighbors report...my anticipation level shot back up in a hurry. I'm looking for my first bow kill and any deer would be a trophy for me with the bow. However, I took 4 does with the gun...and the rut is kicking in and just knowing theres a big guy around, I just might have to let the does walk, hoping the big guy will follow shortly. The anticipation to get out there again is killing me...
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Anticipation Rekindled Hope you get him, there are lots of frustrated days on stand, but when you see that buck come out, all those days are forgotten, your heart races and the anticipation of him getting within range is overwelming. I think its all part of hunting, those non-productive days are what make us better, more educated hunters. That is why they call it "hunting" and not "getting" Good luck, hope you score, let us know and post a picture of that bruiser when you get him!
