puffy
Cutter and myself went out and he sat in our double stand and I opted to sit a few hundred yards to the west (ground blind) in order to maximize our efforts. We wished each other luck and went to set up.I had decided to use a grunt call and a deer can I borrowed from Cutter. I got set up and went through one sequence w/no results. The second sequence brought a sudden response. As I sat the can down I caught movement behind me, just in time too. A Great Horned Owl had decided I looked good and was airborne heading straight at me. I ducked and then looked again, only to see him land about 70 yrds. away. I have to tell ya, I almost crapped my pants. Just at the end of the evening I heard what I first thought was Cutter coming through the bush towards me. It was a nice fat doe instead. She was steam rolling towards me so I drew and she caught the movement and turned at about 14 ft. still running and then stopped. Wasn't long enough for me to shoot, so she runs back about 10 more yards Now about 20 yrds. from me, and stops again. I figure on making the shot and let it fly and all I heard was the clanging of my arrow bouncing off wood. I failed to see the smaller branches out in front. Cutter came along and found my arrow and we both had a good laugh at the evenings events. He also saw a doe and a fawn but never got a shot. Thats hunting for ya!
