huntrman
I may be in the market for an inexpensive scope for my Mossberg 500. I will only be using it for deer hunting and really don't care to shoot any farther than 50-60 yards. I don't know the first thing about all the numbers involved in deciding on a scope, so if someone could help me find one that is cheap, but reliable, that would be great. Thanks. lil hunter
Re: Inexpensive shotgun scope? Get one with a long eye relief. I'd reccomend 3.5" or longer. My dad has a Simmons Pro Diamond 4x32 scope on his 11-87. I love it. There are several out there that would be fine. If your only shooting out to 60 yards, you don't need anymore than a 4 power. You might try gettin one thats adjustable up to 4.
johnf
Re: Inexpensive shotgun scope? with the 50-60 yd shot you might think about the red dot scope. They are cheap and pretty accurate.

Chrud
Re: Inexpensive shotgun scope? Don't go too cheap on a scope. Personally, optics are something that I never go cheap on. With optics, you get what you pay for. Shotguns kick like a son of a bean when shooting slugs. A cheap scope could be discombumerated before you know it. I had a cheap scope on my slug barrel on my Mossberg 500 (20 gauge) and I hated it. It would not hold a zero. Just my two cents.

I have a Simmons 30mm Red Dot on my 870 Express Mag with fully rifled barrel and the thing is as accurate as can be from 0-100 yards shooting Winchester Super X Sabots. Yes, you do give up the magnification, but at the ranges you are talking about that shouldn't be a real issue.
