death penalty

Re: death penalty

I live in GA and we have it although it is used much too sparingly.

In my humble opinion, it isn't used enough. We have politically corrected ourselves so much that when the left makes absurd arguments about redemption, etc. for the criminal, we let it sit and foster. After a while, it becomes truth. Soon, we mourn the execution of the thug more than the death of their victims.

IMHO, here are the things that deserve the DP:

--killing someone while driving drunk

--child molesters (1st offense)

--rapists

--murderers

--wife beaters (proven with lots of evidence)

--Leftists and liberals laugh.gif

--poachers laugh.gif

I think that it is a sobering thing to execute someone but I believe there are some things that you can do that forfeit your right to life. Yes, it is unfortunate that you are being killed but you shouldn't have done what you did.

I am going to move to Texas soon where they routinely hang people for j-walking and routine traffic offenses! laugh.gif That and I can wear my cowboy hat and boots and not look like an idiot.

I kid my wife that if I ever decide to do her in, I am taking her on a trip to Los Angeles (where they can't even come to agreement whether it is a crime or not) to do it and I am going from Georgia to California through Detroit just to avoid Texas airspace! laugh.gif

Re: death penalty

Huntin girl, good for you guys.... I bet the liberal's visions of the wild west is coming true with people being shot daily.

I say we need more wild west. People were for the most part decent, took care of neighbors, and a lot of the garbage going on today was not tolerated. There was no such thing as a repeat sexual molester or killer.

In Iowa we don't have it and as unpopular as this will seem I agree with it. Let them face God when it comes to be that time. He will give them the ultimate punishment!

Re: death penalty

We don't have it, but need it here in Wisconsin. It should be used in the following cases:

Forcible rape (Note the distinction--I'm not talking about the stupid 18 year-old guy who has stupid yet consensual contact with his 16 year-old girlfriend.)

Intentional homicide

Armed Robbery

Spousal battery/stalking

Child molestation

Arson

Death caused while committing a felony

Drug trafficking/dealing methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin--(See intentional homicide)

Aggravated assault

Of course, I don't think the death penalty should be as nice as euthanizing a family pet. In order for it to be an effective deterrent, it MUST be applied in a public venue and harsher--such as they did in the old west. Gallows built with thirteen steps up the gallows and a hangman's noose.

Re: death penalty

Don't have it in Wis, but need it.

They need to change the process to this:

1 appeal within 6 months of conviction. If conviction is upheld, walk them directly to the lethal injection room.

I'm right there with you. I forget what it costs to keep a death row inmate in prison for a year, but it was significantly more than I make in a year.

Why do we pay that much for food, shelter & medical attention for a dead man/woman.

Not to mention the guards and simple cost of that kind of facility.

If they are gonna die...just get it over with, for everyones sake.

Re: death penalty

Two Words... Wrongful Conviction? What if you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And don't you dare say the legal system is perfect. One can remove as many variables as possible but you still have the undenyable variable of human discretion (judge and jury). An eye for an would only lead to more blindness. And death penalty for arson, or battery do you not think that is a little extreme? JMHO.

But on the other hand I have little sympathy for serial killers and serial rapeists.

Re: death penalty

ps just as an educating fact, to most criminals detterence is a neglible fact because of the black rate of crime. This is the amount of crime that goes undeteced by officials and is extremely high (90%). So these criminals honestly believe they will not be caught. I BEILIVE (note: except for the black rate pf crime this is all my opinion) if you want to deterre criminals do it on the street not behind bars. For people in our situation detternce may work because we have something to lose. Look at most these people who do such henious crimes, they are from the bottom of the barrel... they have nothing to lose, so what is stopping them... surely not detterence at those odds.

Re: death penalty

I am by all means in favor of the death penalty. However i dont believe it should be used in all cases that have been mentioned. People who commit crimes such as armed robbery, assault, and arson I believe should be punsihed severly with prison time, but no put to death. If we go and kill everyone for every crime, then we begin to turn into one of those countries that we are constantly at war against...such as Iraq and Afghanistan. I agree with most of the charges though: You molest a child-you should die.....you brutally rape someone-you should die....you commit murder-you should die. There are more cases i believe that deserve the death penalty, but i think you get my opinion.

Texas leads the nation almost every year in executions. Not a statistic to brag about, but it does help make the law abiding citizens safer.

Capital Murder

Repeat Sex Offenders (2nd offense)

Repeat Violent Crime Offenders (3rd offense)

Repeat Drug Trafficers (2nd offense)

[/ QUOTE ]

i like texas and i couldn't agree more!!!!! grin.gif
