REALLY ! Ticked at Bass Pro Shop

I went on the Bass Pro Web Site today to order 2 Nikon rifle scopes and chose what I wanted, went to checkout put in my CC info, shipping address etc and done.

I get an email 2 minutes later saying the scopes would not be shipped or back ordered. I phoned them to see what was up and I was told the following.

I live in Canada, I was shipping the scopes to my parents in Florida who when they came home for the holidays would bring them along. I was told that it is illegal, yes you read that right illegal to ship scopes to Canada or anywhere else if the order originates in Canada. Have you ever heard anything so stupid in your life. I asked to speak to a supervisor who was really rude and acted like I should of known this. I politley said fine and hung up.

Went over to Cabelas and ordere them no problem what so ever. There is NOTHING illegal about sending scopes to Canada, been doing it with other Canadians for years. Just to warn and ask that Canadians stay away from Bass Pro as they do not deserve our business and with rule maker like that at the healm there is no wonder why !

Re: REALLY ! Ticked at Bass Pro Shop

That doesn't make any sense.

You weren't sending scopes to Canada. You were sending them to Florida. And it was really none of their business if your parents were just gonna bring them to you when they came.

So are you saying that if you're Canadian....you couldn't even order something as say...like a CHRISTMAS present and have it shipped to the gift recipient???????

Nope does not matter is the order is generated by a Canadian, and they can tell right away by your CC info they stop the order no matter where it is being sent.

Maybe there is a new regulation regarding firearm accessories being ordered by Canadians from the States, that Cabela's doesn't know about yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope Cabelas, Gander and all the rest are no problem, the only thing you cannot by US and have shipped here is a rifle or handgun, EVEN muzzle loaders are OK to ship to Canada

Yet another in a long list of reasons NOT to be CANADIAN!

I bet you there is a good reason that is probably being ignored by the others you mentioned or perhaps BPS is incorrectly interpreting the law. Knowing what I know about Canada and its intense hatred for guns, I think there is probably a regulation that results in this. It might also be to prevent people like yourself from ordering in Canada and shipping to the US to a relative in order to avoid your 7% duty or tax.

Oh and move South out of that Socialistic, gun-hating, scared of everything--including loud farts--society man. You can still go visit from time to time in order to hunt. laugh.gif

I shop mostly with Bass Pro and never had any problems.

I tend to agree with Newarcher....it prob. has to do more with the "Canadian" laws or rules than it does with BPS itself.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

There is nothing preventing anything buts firearms into Canada, there is no law what so ever. I was told by BPS it was a company decision and nothing else. If this was the case then BP should put a note like they do under other items such as feeders etc about no int orders or canadian orders etc not wait until the order is complete.

Plus the comment above about saving the duty and 7% is none of their business there is another against the law about that, if when it comes accross with the people from the US and falls under the amount they are allowed to bring back to Canada all is good.

Just plain stupid business in my opinion on BPS end and they have now lost my business and I do buy allot of stuff a year especially from Cabelas this was a good chance to win some business and they blew it.

Re: REALLY ! Ticked at Bass Pro Shop

All right, well there is your answer. If it is a company decision, then here is what I would do:

Go to their website and click contact us. Get the phone number for the corporate offices and call and ask for Johnny Morris's office. You will get his secretary. Ask for her email address and tell her you have something you need to send to Mr. Morris. Don't tell her it is a complaint.

Write a nice letter explaining what happened, who you talked to, that this seems to be a company decision, and that they lost your business.

This will usually end up with his secretary (who wields the power of God around a company), a) fixing the problem and b) sending you a little gift card for your troubles.

If it is a company decision, that is stupid.

This is my typical MO when having problems...start at the top. If you send an email, you will get an auto reply that says "thanks, we will get back with you" and they never do.

Try that

Re: REALLY ! Ticked at Bass Pro Shop

I wasn't trying to stick up for BPS decision not to ship to Canada...just trying to show another side of it. I'm sure there is a reason why they won't ship there...maybe had probs. with shipping things acrossed the border and got returns. Resulting in unhappy customers blaming BPS when it may have been "customs"? It may just be easier and less hassle not to ship acrossed the border?

Either way...you got your scopes ordered and thats all that matters. Hope you have a better time with Cabela's.
