Rifle Restoration

Id start by checking with your local gunsmith. Ours does reblueing. He's pretty cheap too. He will probably have a catalog of stocks to look through too.

Personally I would go with a wood stock but thats really a preference thing. Youre never going to sale it so resale isnt an issue but I am way more fond of wood stocks.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Re: Rifle Restoration

I really like sythetic but I would keep my old wood stock it I were you. There is alot of tradition in that stock and one of the boys might want to put it back on. I use sythetic because where I hunt in Texas has lot of briars, cactus, and mesquite. All have huge thorns and will do a number on a stock.

Re: Rifle Restoration

Your choices for synthetic stocks are not what wide. You can get Remington factory parts from a variety of places, or a Bell and Carlson from a shooting supplier.

As far as re-blueing, I prefer a bake on finish if I am not gong to do a polished blueing job. The spray finishes are extremely tough and protect the metal against corrosion better than anything else. Bear Coat

American Weapon & Plating

Mac's Shootin Iron Restoration

Robar

One of these places should be able to help you. Mac's is a very good deal. They do a great job and it is a moderate price.
