popgun
Same thing happened to some of my father's guns many years ago. The gunsmith told him that if they got hot enough to burn the stock etc. off, that it was hot enough to warp barrels and destroy the temper. Keep them around if you want, but I doubt a gunsmith would want to guarantee his work on them, if he were to fix them up. ....popgun
Jeramie
Re: Deer Rifle and small .22 went trough fire Hard call. Id have a smith look them over and see what they think. It probably wouldnt be worth fixing. I wouldnt take chances with it anyway. Hopefully you had insurance but if you didnt, count your losses. AJ
Re: Deer Rifle and small .22 went trough fire I would definately have them gone over by a good gunsmith. Tell them what has happened and they will check the hardness of the metal. Your .22 rimfire is probably ok, a high powered rifle definately needs to be gone over. Paper chars at like 405 degF whether its exposed to fire or not. If your stocks are black, it may be the metal is now too soft. If they got to bake at 450 degF for any long period of time, they are paperweights.
