Finally after so much rain and wind, we had a break today, so Ken_W, Wilfinator and myself went down to the farm for an evening hunt.

Wilf got his first nice buck tonight. He thought he was going to have a bit of a trailing job, after the shot, because the buck ran to the bushline, hopped the fence and disappeared. He walked over there, and there he was laying dead just on the other side. Well done Wilf !!!

He also said that this buck was tailing a doe real close and he saw more than 10 other does and fawns, come out before the buck.

Looks like the rut is just kicking in here. Still lots of fat on him though. grin.gif

Way to go on your first blacktail buck Wilf grin.gif

Thats awesome. Is the blacktail any different from the whitetail? all i notice its a little bit darker, and well of course, the tail.

Yes, they are a totally separate deer species. Their antlers are typically like a muley, but around here you get a lot of racks that look more like Whitetail.

They are quite a bit smaller than a Whitetail, and not as aggressive. The bucks sport that nice black crown, and both buck and doe of course have the black tail. They are found only along the west coast of North America.
