VTbowman
I am seriously thinking of getting into hand gun hunting. I own a .357 Mag Ruger BlackHawk but want a more specialize hand gun for hunting. I am proficient out to 40 yards with it (open sights) but I am looking to replace rifle hunting with it not bow hunting. I am looking to get 75-100 yard shots out of it, maybe more, and would like some suggestions on a gun and scope combo I should be looking at. I am not looking to spend a mint but dont want bottom shelf either. Thanks for any suggestion and advice.
AJ
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. There is always the T/C Encore or G2 Contender. You can get a hundred different barrels that will work 75-100 yards and farther. Top it off with some good quality optics like the Burris Optics LER scopes and you are good to go. I have a few of their 3-12x handgun scopes on my LR handguns and they hold up great.

VTbowman
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. Wow just checked them out and was wondering what caliber I should go for? I was thinking .270 or maybe .308...??? Also would you recommend a 15" barrel? I am leaning toward the longer. Only huinting whitetails with it. Thanks.

Guest tyshe17
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. a touch over 500 i believe. I have one in 260 and have killed deer with it out to 140. My cuz has a 308 and i saw him kill a small doe at 320 with it last year using one of thoes burrises with ballistic lines. VTbowman
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. Well I made arrangements to sell a shot gun and have a good chunk towards a new T/C Encore in 7mm.08, 15" SS barrel and frame with black grip and forearm. I have not picked out scope yet but will soon. Thanks to all your help!
hangunnr
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. Sounds like a good choice. Give the Burris 1.5X4 and 2X7 handgun scopes a look. I have a couple of each and have been pretty impressed with the performance. hangunnr
VTbowman
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. I had read somewhere that TC hand gun barrel have some issue but not sure what they are. I really dont want to buy into a gun that has potential issue out of the box. Any suggestion or info on this??? Thanks.
AJ
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. I have posted that I have not had much luck with T/C factory Encore barrels. They have not been near my standards. I have had great success with Contender barrels. Also, I have not played wth a factory handugn barrel in over 5 years. Burned twice, I won't buy again. So, I don't know if they are any better or not. I would look at Fox Ridge Outfitter (T/C Custom Shop) as a minimum for future barrels. I do like Bullberry and SSK's stuff. VTbowman
Re: Thinking towards next year with a long range hand. I went to thier site but did not see where they sell many choices of caliber at all. Do they take your factory barrle and "mod" it out to shoot better?
