Re: KANSAS BUCK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, sorry its taken so long everyone. I went from a all time high, to the perverbial, craps. I shot that deer a little back like I said, well I waited 3 hours (seemed like 100) I was walking slowly the draw I saw him head to (no blood trail whatsoever) and I jumped him around noon, I shot him early that morning. This deer took off like a bat from hades, so I found his bed, a drop of blood the size of a quarter, thats it. I watched him run, no blood on his fur either side. I am beffuddled.

So, Last night(sat) I am sitting in a brand new stand, that I never hunted before, but have seen a 200+, 180, and a 165" in the last few nights. I am sitting there and about 5:15 a doe is on me, I dont know where she came from, but she was there. I look behind her and an old 8 point is on her tail. I have seen this buck for years, and its time to come out of the herd. Seeing as I already blew my chance at a book buck, I slowly draw, aim and squeeze. Of course, I make the perfect shot, the buck doesnt run, he walks 5 steps and falls over. Double lungs, top of the heart.

I am sitting in the tree afterwords, and the biggest deer I have EVER seen, live, videos, tv, magazines, this deer is probably 250" or better, comes right past at 30 yards and heads to the wheat! What an experience!

I know some will say thats what I get, I think that manging the herd by culling old bucks and does gives me a better chance to see more like that monster!

Enough rambling, here is a pic!

Brad

P.S. Thanks for all the encourangement, and supports the last two days.

Ow! I know even getting this nice deer doesn't take the pain of loosing one away. frown.gif

Usually if you clip a deer's diaphram they won't make it 3hrs. If I felt I had done that, 3hrs is plenty of wait.

However, if you connect with liver only, even though that's absolutely fatal it can take 24hrs for him to stove up. Liver shots are notoriously hard to track. Take heart, searching the thickets around the edges of the nearest water source may still turn him up though. If your arrow was blooded end to end. You still might find that sucker.

Re: KANSAS BUCK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Todd, I spent all day yesterday looking for him, I walked about 5 miles total, I have 3 miles of the river bottom on the north and south, and I covered it all with a lab that is a great tracker. I have 3 trail cams up in the area he uses, so I will see if I can catch him alive still (I pray)!
