NY911Bowhunter
Tough call - Can't say for sure. Howver, deer never cease to amaze me with their tenaciousness and will to live. Welcome to the Forums!
billygoat
Re: could not retreive my deer If you know your bedding areas, move into them around midday and see if you can find any other sign, best of luck sorry for your loss. AaronS
Re: could not retreive my deer If you hit the brisket your arrow should have had a coating of fat on it. Good luck in your search. I know it is hearbreaking to not find a wounded animal.
Tominator
Re: could not retreive my deer seen it happen before. i've hit 2 deer in the brisket. lost both trails. did the blood get kinda' watery looking? if so, i'd say that deer will be fine. sounds like you just missed the rib cage. buckee
Re: could not retreive my deer If you hit the brisket, without nicking lung or heart, he will live. You probably won't see him for a while though, since he'll be laid up in bed. Sorry to hear you lost him.
EIGHTPOINT
Re: could not retreive my deer If you are sure that the deer did not get pushed out of the area by your initial search I would try looking for bedding areas, thick areas where he could feel safe with good visability from approaching danger, water; wounded deer will go to water especially if you can combine that with thick cover, and down hill; wounded deer prefer to travel easily taking trails and easy travel routes. If you know your hunting area well, ask yourself where you would want to recover from an injury ?
