BLH Posted November 15, 2005 Report Share Posted November 15, 2005 I just got off the phone with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. I had to report a guy that is hunting the property adjcent to ours who is bragging about and showing off a deer he killed with a rifle. Rifle season doesn't come in for another week. I told him it was poaching and he just shrugged his shoulders and laughed. I hate to do it, but he had to be reported. Anyone who knowingly poaches and laughs about it doesn't deserve to be hunting. These people are not hunters, they are poachers and what they do is a theft to all legal hunters. They show no respect for the animals they murder. They realize they can't match the deer's wit and the only way they can shoot such a great animal is to poach it. Congrats again on calling him in. The Wildlife Resources depends on legal hunters to report their kill in order to better manage the herd. Poachers don't realize they steal from everyone. We have game laws for a reason and we should follow them and promote that everyone else does too. I have turned in folks before and here in Texas they give rewards , I got a $350 check but that was not the reaseon I called in on them. We all work hard to hunt and spend alot of time trying to harvest a deer, it is not right for a person to cheat and go poaching animals because they are lazy and dont want to put forth the effort to be a real hunter. [/ QUOTE ] What part of NC do you live in? Must be the western part of the state, because rifle season has been in over here in the eastern part since mid-october. They told him next time it would be his weapon, truck, and a $5000 fine. The warden told him he was going to pay extra attention to this guys area for the remainder of the season.
